Filed:
Jul 29, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/194397
Inventors:
Myles Caley - Louisville KY, US
Robert Marten Bultman - Louisville KY, US
Natarajan Venkatakrishnan - Louisville KY, US
Elmer Weston Brown - Cleveland OH, US
William Anthony Watts - Louisville KY, US
Edward Robert Melski - Waukesha WI, US
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
G06F 21/00
H04L 9/32
US Classification:
726 7, 709224
Abstract:
System, method, and computer-readable instructions for use in communicating with an energy management device in a network that comprises one or more energy devices. First search results are created by searching for devices associated with a first energy management device identifier using a first discovery protocol. Second search results are created by searching for devices associated with a second energy management device identifier using a second discovery protocol. The first and second search results are combined to create a collection of candidate devices, and at least one candidate device of the candidate devices is validated to determine whether the candidate device is an energy management device.

Method And System For Operating A Water Heater Appliance

US Patent:
20140169773, Jun 19, 2014
Filed:
Dec 17, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/716694
Inventors:
- Schenectady NY, US
Michael Thomas Beyerle - Pewee Valley KY, US
Thomas Charles Zimmer - La Grange KY, US
Robert Marten Bultman - Louisville KY, US
Myles Caley - La Grange KY, US
Assignee:
GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F24H 1/00
US Classification:
392441
Abstract:
A method and system for operating a water heater appliance are provided. The method and system include initiating a vacation mode of the water heater appliance. An operating temperature of the water heater appliance is reduced from a normal operating temperature to a vacation operating temperature in the vacation mode of the water heater appliance. The method and system also include sanitizing the water heater appliance by raising the operating temperature of the water heater appliance from the vacation operating temperature to a sanitization operating temperature.

Cloud-Based Bi-Directional Messaging System For Home Appliance Control

View page
US Patent:
20140156028, Jun 5, 2014
Filed:
Nov 30, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/690360
Inventors:
- Schenctady NY, US
Myles D. CALEY - La Grange KY, US
Assignee:
GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY - Schenctady NY
International Classification:
G05B 19/02
US Classification:
700 11
Abstract:
A system for home appliance control includes a plurality of home appliance controllers and a cloud-based service connected to these home appliance controllers through networking Each home appliance controller is configured to communicate with the cloud-based service via a bi-directional asynchronous messaging protocol regarding at least one home appliance. The cloud-based service includes a first interface and a second interface. The first interface is configured to receive a push request and send a push response related to at least one home appliance. The second interface is configured to communicate with the plurality of home appliance controllers.

Using A Rest Resource Base For Networked Appliances

View page
US Patent:
20140140355, May 22, 2014
Filed:
Nov 20, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/681570
Inventors:
- Schenectady NY, US
Myles D. Caley - LaGrange KY, US
Dong Hun Lee - Gunpo-si, KR
Christopher Matthew Baker - Louisville KY, US
Assignee:
GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
H04L 12/00
US Classification:
370464
Abstract:
A system and method of remotely communicating with an appliance system is provided. A remote device, such as a computer, a smartphone, a tablet, etc., can request information associated with a home appliance over a communication network. The information can be stored in a memory of the appliance in a data structure having a plurality of resources organized pursuant to a Representational State Transfer (REST) resource orientated architecture. A representation of a plurality of resources can include a layered structure having a hierarchy having subordinate resources. Each subordinate resource can provide more detailed information. Information relating to a data path needed to read the resource corresponding to the requested information as well as information relating to navigating to subordinate resources if requested can be included in the representation of each resource. The home appliance can provide the remote device a representation of the resource corresponding to the requested information.

Device And Method For Aggregating Services For Use Across Networks Using Separate Data Format Protocols

US Patent:
20140136671, May 15, 2014
Filed:
Nov 14, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/676253
Inventors:
- Schenectady NY, US
Myles Caley - La Grange KY, US
Christopher BAKER - Louisville KY, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
709223
Abstract:
A device comprises a processor, memory, and executable instructions stored on memory and configured to be executed by the processor. The executable instructions includes executable instruction for receiving a signal comprising a first coded representation representing a service of a remote device, the first coded representation representing the service in a first data protocol of a non-IP network, translating the first coded representation representing the service to a second coded representation representing the service, the second coded representation in a second data protocol using a DNS-based Service Discovery convention that allows a device on an IP network to recognize the availability of the service, and generating a service record with the second coded representation.
