Removable Foam Adhesive Tape

View page
US Patent:
6403206, Jun 11, 2002
Filed:
Sep 20, 1994
Appl. No.:
08/308937
Inventors:
James L. Bries - Cottage Grove MN
Michael D. Hamerski - Baldwin WI
Assignee:
Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
C09J 702
US Classification:
428220, 4283173, 428354, 428355 RA
Abstract:
Conformable pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes which comprise a layer of polymeric foam in the backing and may be adhered firmly to a substrate and thereafter removed therefrom after only being stretched at an angle no greater than about 35Â from the surface of the substrate. Articles for mounting an object such as a picture to a surface such as a wall comprising a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape of the invention are also described.

Article Support Using Stretch Releasing Adhesives

View page
US Patent:
6499707, Dec 31, 2002
Filed:
Feb 22, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/790280
Inventors:
Michael D. Hamerski - Baldwin WI
James L. Bries - Cottage Grove MN
Alex Rodriquez, Jr. - Stillwater MN
Bruce W. Carlson - Minneapolis MN
Assignee:
3M Innovative Properties Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
A47G 117
US Classification:
2482053, 248683, 248544
Abstract:
An article support adapted for adhering to a substrate is described. The article support preferably includes a base member, a stretch release adhesive tape adhered to that base member, and some mechanism for gripping the stretch release adhesive tape. These items are arranged so that when the base member is adhered to the substrate by the stretch release adhesive tape, the base member can be removed by pulling on the gripping means at an acute angle from the surface of the substrate. Gripping means which resist disassociation from the stretch release adhesive tape during the removal of the base from the substrate are disclosed, including handle types. The base member can be generic, suitable for attaching various types of support members via, for example, complimentary dovetail slides. In such cases, provision such as a latch can be made to temporarily lock the support member to the base member. The article support can be provided so that when the support member is removed from the base member, the gripping mechanism engages the support member to automatically stretch the tape and remove the base member from the substrate.

Method Of Applying A Force To A Work Piece

US Patent:
7055360, Jun 6, 2006
Filed:
Dec 31, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/749580
Inventors:
Michael D. Hamerski - Baldwin WI, US
James L. Bries - Cottage Grove MN, US
James F. Pitzen - Maplewood MN, US
Ronald C. Johansson - Stillwater MN, US
Assignee:
3M Innovative Properties Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
B21D 31/00
US Classification:
723792, 72454, 72458, 72705
Abstract:
A method of applying a tensile or compressive force to a selected location of a work piece or surface without damaging the work piece or the surface and without leaving adhesive residue thereon includes providing a device including a body member and a force applying member movably connected with the body member, attaching the body member and/or the force applying member to the work piece and/or surface using a double-sided stretch releasing adhesive such that one end of the force applying member is adjacent the selected location, and moving the force applying member toward the work piece or surface to generate a compressive force, or moving the force applying member away from the work piece or surface to generate a tensile force.

Adhesively Mounted Clamp Device

View page
US Patent:
7089641, Aug 15, 2006
Filed:
Nov 7, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/703750
Inventors:
Michael D. Hamerski - Baldwin WI, US
Assignee:
3M Innovative Properties Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
B23P 19/04
US Classification:
29238, 29255, 72454
Abstract:
An adhesively mounted single-sided clamp-like device for producing a compressive force or tensile force includes a body, a plunger movably connected with the body, and a double-sided stretch releasing adhesive attached to at least one of the body and the plunger. The body and/or plunger can be firmly adhesively bonded to a surface or object and later cleanly removed from the surface or plunger without damaging the surface and without leaving adhesive residue by stretching the adhesive.

US Patent:
20050139739, Jun 30, 2005
Filed:
Dec 31, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/750223
Inventors:
Michael Hamerski - Baldwin WI, US
International Classification:
A47G001/17
US Classification:
248206500
Abstract:
A first structure comprising a permanent magnet having a magnet surface adapted to be positioned along a surface of a second structure comprising a layer of ferrous or ferromagnetic material so that one of the structures can be supported on the other structure by magnetic attraction. The first structure further comprises a layer of removable pressure sensitive adhesive having a surface parallel with its magnet surface adapted to releasably adhere to the surface of the second structure and thereby significantly restrict slipping of the surfaces of the first and second structures along each other.

Sheet Material Dispenser With Safer Sheet Cutting Means

View page
US Patent:
60391022, Mar 21, 2000
Filed:
May 14, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/855687
Inventors:
Philip V. Sadrakula - Hudson WI
Leonard Kampa - Bloomington MN
Michael D. Hamerski - Baldwin WI
James L. Bries - Cottage Grove MN
Assignee:
3M Innovative Properties Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
B32B 3100
US Classification:
156510
Abstract:
A dispenser from which sheet material may be manually pulled from a supply of the sheet material carried on the dispenser through a passageway defined by a frame of the dispenser. The dispenser includes a cutting member having a sharp cutting edge adapted for transversely cutting the sheet material and an elongate contact surface generally parallel to and spaced from the cutting edge. The cutting member is mounted on the frame for movement between (1) a retracted position to which it is biased at which the cutting edge is positioned to restrict contact between a person using the dispenser and the cutting edge and at which the contact surface extends along the one side of the passageway; and (2) a cutting position to which the cutting member can be moved from its retracted position by manually tensioning sheet material being pulled from the dispenser around the contact surface of the cutting member. At the cutting position the cutting edge is positioned to intersect and transversely sever the tensioned sheet material being manually withdrawn from the dispenser.
