Abstract:
A system and method for providing targeted programming to a user outside of the user's home. The method of receiving at least one of a user identification and a user profile, selecting a program based at least in part on the at least one of the user identification and the user profile, and providing a program for presentation to a user outside of the user's home is disclosed. A system including presentation device connected to a controller is also disclosed. The controller receives at least one of a user identification and a user profile, obtains a program based at least in part on the at least one of the user identification and the user profile and provides a program to a presentation device for presentation to a user outside of the user's home.

Asset Targeting System For Limited Resource Environments

Jan 30, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/022209
Inventors:
Michael Cristofalo - Doylestown PA, US
Patrick M. Sheehan - Jamison PA, US
Assignee:
Invidi Technologies Corporation - Princeton NJ
International Classification:
H04H 20/14
H04H 60/29
H04H 60/32
H04H 60/33
H04N 7/10
H04N 7/025
H04N 7/173
US Classification:
725 34, 725 9, 725 12, 725 14, 725 16, 725 22, 725 32, 725 35, 725105
Abstract:
The present invention provides targeted asset system implementations in contexts where there is limited or no ability to use a real-time return channel for communications from user equipment devices (e. g. , STB) to the network. In one arrangement, a household classifier is generated and delivered to user equipment devices. The household classifiers are generated based on third party data and/or network usage information associated with the household. The system and method allow for generating highly accurate household classifications that may be forwarded to individual households where the user equipment device may implant the classifiers to select appropriate assets for delivery to the household.

Technique For Optimizing The Delivery Of Advertisements And Other Programming Segments By Making Bandwidth Tradeoffs

View page
US Patent:
20020194589, Dec 19, 2002
Filed:
May 8, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/852229
Inventors:
Michael Cristofalo - Doylestown PA, US
Patrick Sheehan - Jamison PA, US
International Classification:
H04N007/173
H04N007/10
US Classification:
725/032000, 725/035000, 725/114000, 725/116000
Abstract:
A technique for optimizing the delivery of a multiplicity of advertisements and other programming is provided by trading off full-motion video for other forms of high quality still images, text, graphics and audio. By creating a group of synchronized digital programming components, for example, still-frame video, audio, graphics, text, animation, and media objects, which combined utilize less bandwidth than a standard digital programming segment of full-motion video with CD quality audio, a greater number of differentiable programming content options can be made available in the digital transmission stream. Because of the greatly expanded amount of differentiable content that can be created using the bandwidth tradeoff techniques, greater precision in targeting particular content, such as advertisements, to particular users is possible. The invention also contemplates the system requirements, both hardware and software, for a digital programming transmission center and for a user's receiver, necessary to implement the bandwidth tradeoff methodology.

System And Process For Implementing Commercial Breaks In Programming

View page
US Patent:
20030058707, Mar 27, 2003
Filed:
Sep 10, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/241025
Inventors:
Bruce Dilger - Medford NJ, US
Michael Cristofalo - Doylestown PA, US
Frank Deo - Flemington NJ, US
International Classification:
G11C007/00
US Classification:
365/200000
Abstract:
A system and process is provided for determining, selecting and identifying commercial and/or non-commercial segments for insertion into a break in a given programming signal. In one embodiment, a break planner is provided in a media stream planner. The break planner utilizes at least one parameter provided by at least one of an ad campaign, an active segments list, a viewer profile database, and a prior inserts history to determine which segment to insert into a given break in a programming signal. Such determinations may be made real-time or on a pre-determined basis and may be communicated to an advertisement inserter which provides such “segments” to a transmission system for insertion into a transmitted or otherwise communicated programming signal. In an alternative embodiment, the selection and insertion processes may be accomplished in a personal video recorder.

US Patent:
20030154128, Aug 14, 2003
Filed:
Feb 11, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/074530
Inventors:
Kevin Liga - Rye Brook NY, US
Michael Cristofalo - Doylestown PA, US
Frank Deo - Flemington NJ, US
Arthur Greenberg - Annandale NJ, US
International Classification:
H04N005/91
H04N007/04
H04N007/06
H04N007/08
H04N007/52
US Classification:
705/014000, 386/095000
Abstract:
A method and system for displaying updated, targeted, and/or alternately formatted advertisements to a consumer. The invention may use targeted ads in conjunction with consumer profile information to reach interested consumers. The invention may further detect stale advertisements and replace them with updated advertisements having timely information. The updated advertisements are displayed in place of the stale commercials. The invention may also display alternately formatted advertisements in place of speeded-up advertisements during a fast-forward operation on a personal video recorder. Reward-based content may also be provided, wherein the content is viewable only after one or more advertisements are viewed at normal playback speed. All of these functions are operable with a personal video recorder.

Intelligent Targeting Of Tags In A Broadcast Network

View page
US Patent:
20080301727, Dec 4, 2008
Filed:
Feb 1, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/024757
Inventors:
Michael Cristofalo - Doylestown PA, US
Bruce J. Anderson - Chesterfield NJ, US
Daniel C. Wilson - Edmonton, CA
International Classification:
H04N 7/10
US Classification:
725 35
Abstract:
A system and associated methodology are disclosed for targeting tags in a broadcast network. The tags may be associated with an ad or programming. In one implementation, the tags to be delivered at a user equipment device are selected at the user equipment device, for example, based on location or other user classification parameters. In this manner, different user equipment devices that are on the same bandwidth segment in the same network subdivision can receive different tags.

National Insertion Of Targeted Advertisement

US Patent:
20100037253, Feb 11, 2010
Filed:
Aug 5, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/536347
Inventors:
Patrick SHEEHAN - Jamison PA, US
Michael CRISTOFALO - Doylestown PA, US
Bruce J. ANDERSON - Chesterfield NJ, US
Daniel C. WILSON - Edmonton, CA
Assignee:
INVIDI TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION - Princeton NJ
International Classification:
H04N 7/167
H04N 7/025
US Classification:
725 31, 725 35
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed that allow for providing targeted asset/advertisements for broadcast-wide programming feeds. The systems and methods allow network platforms to select among asset options provided with a content stream and/or replace assets in the content stream. In one arrangement, after selecting an asset, the asset is inserted into the content stream and the content stream is disseminated to subsequent network platforms (e.g., local platforms). At this time, the local platforms may insert local assets into the content stream in predetermined local asset insertion spots.
