Ocr And Bar Code Reader Using Multi Port Matrix Array

View page
US Patent:
44083440, Oct 4, 1983
Filed:
Apr 9, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/252554
Inventors:
Lynn D. McWaters - Garland TX
Medford D. Sanner - Irving TX
Assignee:
Recognition Equipment Incorporated - Irving TX
International Classification:
G06K 928
US Classification:
382 62
Abstract:
A common scanning unit is utilized in an optical character reader which reads both alphanumeric and bar code characters. An N column by M row area photosensor detects both the alphanumeric and bar code signals. The system detects which type of character is being read and then outputs the identity of the character.

Image Processing Integrated Circuit

US Patent:
44919646, Jan 1, 1985
Filed:
Mar 9, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/586888
Inventors:
Medford D. Sanner - Irving TX
Assignee:
Recognition Equipment Incorporated - Irving TX
International Classification:
G06K 936
US Classification:
382 50
Abstract:
An array of integrated photosensitive devices is used to lift an image of a printed character or symbol from a document or other surface, process the image to enhance character information and referencing it against a self adjusting threshold to produce a black/white video output, in serial form, representative of the image sensed by the array. Charge transfer devices are used extensively throughout on a single integrated circuit to provide a complete image processing video device on a single integrated circuit chip.

Image Character Reader System

View page
US Patent:
39784509, Aug 31, 1976
Filed:
May 30, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/474383
Inventors:
Medford Duane Sanner - Irving TX
Jim O. Lafevers - Richardson TX
Sauas Mirci - Mission Viejo CA
Assignee:
Recognition Equipment Incorporated - Irving TX
International Classification:
G06K 912
US Classification:
3401463C
Abstract:
An improved magnetic image character reading system which produces high signal levels, eliminates dead spots between sample tracks for full resolution. Two sets of read heads are positioned in a spaced apart, staggered arrangement such that one set is adjacent the other with elements of the first set staggered to overlap the tracks read by the second set. Scanned signals generated while passing magnetized characters first past one set and then past the second set of heads are combined after delay of the signal generated by the first set of heads to compensate for spacing between the sets of heads.

Dual Channel Signal Processing System For An Image Sensor

View page
US Patent:
47573864, Jul 12, 1988
Filed:
Dec 5, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/938582
Inventors:
Medford D. Sanner - Irving TX
Assignee:
Recognition Equipment Incorporated - Irving TX
International Classification:
H04N 314
US Classification:
35821326
Abstract:
An image processor (10) for use with an image sensor (12) is provided. The image sensor includes two output channels (14, 16) for producing video signals in the form of a clock signal carrier which is amplitude modulated by picture element signal levels sensed by the image sensor (12). A first filter (22) is connected to the image sensor (12) for removing the clock signal from the video signals produced by the image sensor which are produced on the first channel (14). A second filter (26) is connected to the image sensor (12) for receiving video signals from the second channel (16) for removing the clock signal from the video signals produced by the image sensor (12) produced on the second channel (16). The filtered video signals are combined in a multiplexer (40) to produce a single video signal.

Document Processing System And Method

View page
US Patent:
53352920, Aug 2, 1994
Filed:
Feb 6, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/651581
Inventors:
Kenneth T. Lovelady - Irving TX
Medford D. Sanner - Irving TX
Assignee:
Recognition International Inc. - Dallas TX
International Classification:
G06K 900
US Classification:
382 17
Abstract:
A document processing system for processing documents having data printed thereon including markings visible to the eye, but which are not to be read by the system and characters which are to be read by the system includes structure for scanning a document for capturing the color image of the document being processed and for generating a plurality of colored picture elements. Circuity is provided for identifying colors included within the core area and edge of the markings. The colors of the picture elements of the core area and edge of the markings are converted to the color of the background of the document thereby generating a filtered image of the document. An optical character recognition unit is provided for receiving the filtered image of the document representing character information only and for identifying the characters appearing on the document from the filtered image, such that the markings and the background surrounding a character are not distinguishable by the optical character recognition unit.
