Installation Adapter For A Fuse And Method Of Adapting A Fuse For Installation

View page
US Patent:
7773368, Aug 10, 2010
Filed:
Apr 9, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/784654
Inventors:
Glenn R. Borchardt - Round Lake Beach IL, US
Michael G. Ennis - Evanston IL, US
Jorge R. Montante - Cicero IL, US
Martin A. Warszawa - Arlington Heights IL, US
Assignee:
S&C Electric Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
H01H 85/20
US Classification:
361626, 337159, 337187, 439250, 439366
Abstract:
A fuse incorporates a fusible element assembly and an auxiliary fusible element assembly in a solid arc extinguishing material configuration. The fusible element assembly has a first operating characteristic and the auxiliary fusible element has a second operating characteristic different than the first operating characteristic. An installation adapter may be used to adapt a fuse to a non-standard mounting for the fuse. The installation adapter may include first and second adapter members that secure to the fuse to provide contacts having an appropriate spatial relationship to engage the non-standard mounting. A fuse and an installation adapter may be packaged as a kit.

US Patent:
20030179069, Sep 25, 2003
Filed:
Feb 18, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/368215
Inventors:
Glenn Borchardt - Round Lake Beach IL, US
Jorge Montante - Cicero IL, US
Martin Warszawa - Arlington Heights IL, US
International Classification:
H01H085/30
US Classification:
337/206000, 337/244000, 337/267000
Abstract:
A fuse is provided that is suitable for operation in unusual environments and includes an operation indicator that is simple and reliable. A movable arcing tube is released during operation. As the arcing tube moves outside the fuse assembly, a latching spring moves into a receiving groove in the arcing tube to retain the arcing tube in the external operated position.

Current-Limiting Fuse And Housing Arrangement

US Patent:
20030218528, Nov 27, 2003
Filed:
Oct 9, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/268252
Inventors:
Mark Stavnes - Des Plaines IL, US
Glenn Borchardt - Round Lake Beach IL, US
Jorge Montante - Cicero IL, US
Raymond O'Leary - Evanston IL, US
Martin Warszawa - Arlington Heights IL, US
International Classification:
H01H085/055
US Classification:
337/159000, 337/186000
Abstract:
A current-limiting device is provided that defines a cavity of predetermined dimensions and an elongated circuitous path through the cavity. The device also includes provisions for supporting a current-limiting fusible element along the path. The cavity is filled with a pulverulent arc-quenching filler material. To increase the heat-withstand capabilities of the current-limiting device, heat withstand facilities are provided between the portions of the circuitous path to maximize the length of the path while minimizing the corresponding volume of the device, e.g. via heat resistant materials, the addition of heat shielding materials to the cavity-defining device structure or the structure of support portions of the cavity-defining structure. In one specific arrangement, the path of the fusible element is defined by one or more U-shaped sections. The fusible element includes a configuration of steps or bends along its length to maximize the path length of the fusible element.

Low Current Fuse Cartridge For Circuit Interrupter

US Patent:
20040207505, Oct 21, 2004
Filed:
Nov 26, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/722892
Inventors:
Glenn Borchardt - Round Lake Beach IL, US
Jorge Montante - Cicero IL, US
Mark Stavnes - Mount Prospect IL, US
Martin Warszawa - Arlington Heights IL, US
International Classification:
H01H085/02
US Classification:
337/186000
Abstract:
A fuse cartridge is provided having improved tensile strength via the provision of a mechanical strain wire that is in parallel with a fusible element mechanically but not electrically, thereby increasing the tensile strength of the fusible element without altering the electrical time-current characteristics of the fusible element. In a preferred embodiment, the strain wire is provided by looping a fusible element wire from a first terminal around a second terminal and back near the first terminal but electrically insulated therefrom.
