Apparatus And Method For Predicting Vertical Stress Fields

View page
US Patent:
20110077868, Mar 31, 2011
Filed:
Sep 28, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/568094
Inventors:
Cem Ozan - Houston TX, US
Martin Brudy - Houston TX, US
Wouter Van Der Zee - Voorburg, NL
Assignee:
BAKER HUGHES INCORPORATED - Houston TX
International Classification:
G01V 9/00
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
702 11
Abstract:
A method of estimating at least one of stress and pore fluid pressure in an earth formation is disclosed. The method includes: discretizing a domain including at least a portion of the earth formation into a plurality of cells, each cell including a respective density value; dividing the domain into a first region and a second region, the first region including a surface of the earth formation; vertically integrating the respective density values in the first region; and estimating the total vertical stress for each cell in the first region and the second region by estimating a point load based on the respective density value.

System And Methods For Real-Time Wellbore Stability Service

US Patent:
20110153296, Jun 23, 2011
Filed:
Dec 21, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/974759
Inventors:
Andreas G. Sadlier - The Woodlands TX, US
James Peter Dwyer - Conroe TX, US
Martin O. Brudy - Houston TX, US
Christopher A. Wolfe - Katy TX, US
Michael M. Reese - Youngsville LA, US
Assignee:
BAKER HUGHES INCORPORATED - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06G 7/48
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
703 7, 702 9
Abstract:
Apparatus and method of conducting a drilling operation are provided. One embodiment of the method includes drilling a borehole, predicting a value of a first parameter relating to the drilling of the borehole using a geomechanical model, estimating a value of a second parameter from measurements taken by a sensor, updating the geomechanical model based at least in part on the estimated value of the second parameter, predicting a second value of the first parameter using the updated geomechanical model, and altering a drilling parameter for drilling the borehole based on the predicted second value of the first parameter.

Apparatus And Method For Predicting Vertical Stress Fields

US Patent:
20120029826, Feb 2, 2012
Filed:
Jan 25, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/012992
Inventors:
Cem Ozan - Houston TX, US
Martin Brudy - Houston TX, US
Wouter Van Der Zee - Voorburg, NL
Assignee:
BAKER HUGHES INCORPORATED - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
G01V 1/30
US Classification:
702 11
Abstract:
A method of estimating stress in an earth formation is disclosed. The method includes: dividing a domain including at least a portion of an earth formation into a first region and a second region; estimating a first vertical stress in the first region and representing the first vertical stress as at least one point load; estimating a second vertical stress in the second region by a point load based method using the first vertical stress; and estimating at least one horizontal stress based on the second vertical stress.
