Method And Apparatus For Gathering, Transporting, And Processing Aquatic Plants

View page
US Patent:
6393812, May 28, 2002
Filed:
Oct 31, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/702709
Inventors:
Sam Morgan - Menlo KS
Mark J. Zivojnovich - Ocala FL
Assignee:
Hydromentia, Inc. - Ocala FL
International Classification:
A01D 4400
US Classification:
56 9
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for removing water hyacinths. The system of the present invention utilizes a transfer mechanism and grapple to collect hyacinth material from a body of water. The collected material is then passed to a transport for delivery to a header unit and grapple. The header unit grapple then retrieves the hyacinth material and delivers it to a collection bin for processing. The chopped hyacinth material is thereafter discharged for subsequent use as a biomass.

Integrated Aquaculture And Bioremediation System And Method

View page
US Patent:
58207597, Oct 13, 1998
Filed:
Aug 19, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/912716
Inventors:
E. Allen Stewart - Punta Gorda FL
Mark Zivojnovich - Ocala FL
Assignee:
MFM Environmental Co. - Ocala FL
International Classification:
C02F 332
US Classification:
210602
Abstract:
An integrated aquaculture system and method are provided that include interrelated and symbiotic modules for adaptively bioremediating wastewater, producing food in the form of fish, and producing plant biomass for animal feed. The system is ecologically and economically self-sustaining. In one embodiment, the system contains a fish cultivation tank, an algal floway, and a water hyacinth system. Two modes of operation are contemplated: a recycle mode and a flow-through mode. The water hyacinth system includes harvesting, conveying, and chopping apparatus.

Vascular Plant Aquaculture And Bioremediation System And Method

View page
US Patent:
58110070, Sep 22, 1998
Filed:
Aug 18, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/912715
Inventors:
E. Allen Stewart - Punta Gorda FL
Mark Zivojnovich - Ocala FL
Assignee:
MFM Environmental Co. - Ocala FL
International Classification:
C02F 332
US Classification:
210602
Abstract:
A vascular plant aquaculture system and method are provided that include a water hyacinth enclosure for bioremediating wastewater and producing plant biomass for animal feed. A road and a flume are disposed about the water hyacinth enclosure for permitting access to the plants by a harvester, which is adapted to lift plants from the enclosure and deliver them to the flume, which carries purified water and the harvested plants for further processing. Such further processing may include chopping and vermicomposting.
