Feb 22, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/511183
Inventors:
Victor M. Bolze - Houston TX
Jonathan W. Brown - Alford, GB
Andrew L. Kurkjian - Sugar Land TX
Timothy L. Long - Alvin TX
Angus J. Melbourne - Montrouge Cedex, FR
Linward A. Moore - Stafford TX
Robert P. Zimmerman - Friendswood TX
Assignee:
Schlumberger Technology Corporation - Sugar Land TX
International Classification:
E21B 4900
US Classification:
166264, 166167, 175 59
Abstract:
A sample module is provided for use in a downhole tool to obtain fluid from a subsurface formation penetrated by a wellbore. The sample module includes a sample chamber carried by the module for collecting a sample of formation fluid obtained from the formation via the downhole tool, and a validation chamber carried by the module for collecting a substantially smaller sample of formation fluid than the sample chamber. The validation chamber is removable from the sample module at the surface without disturbing the sample chamber. A sample chamber is also provided that includes a subtantially cylindrical body capable of safely withstanding heating at the surface, following collection of a formation fluid sample via the downhole tool and withdrawal of the sample chamber from the wellbore, to temperatures necessary to promote recombination of the sample components wihtin the chambers. Additionally, the body is equipped so as to be certified for transportation. At least one floating piston is slidably positioned within the body so as to define a fluid collection cavity and a pressurization cavity, whereby the pressurization cavity may be charged to control the pressure of the sample collected in the collection cavity.

Apparatus And Method For Generating And Storing Energy In A Portable Energy Storage Device And Using The Stored Energy To Extend Internal Battery Life

View page
US Patent:
20070220773, Sep 27, 2007
Filed:
Mar 21, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/385477
Inventors:
Walter Evanyk - Plano TX, US
Timothy Long - Sherman TX, US
International Classification:
A45D 20/12
US Classification:
034096000
Abstract:
A portable energy storage device that can be brought to a desired operating condition (such as temperature) using an external power source to save the power in internal power cell and, when the external power source is disconnected from device to make it portable, the internal power cell of the device automatically provides output power to the load that is regulated by a pulse time modulation control circuit that senses the desired operating condition and provides power pulses to the load sufficient only to maintain the desired operating condition thus extending the life of the internal power cell in the portable device.

Terephthalate-Co-4,4-Bibenzoate Polyesters

View page
US Patent:
20200262971, Aug 20, 2020
Filed:
Oct 7, 2016
Appl. No.:
16/061280
Inventors:
- Baytown TX, US
- Blacksburg VA, US
Ting Chen - Friendswood TX, US
Timothy E. Long - Blacksburg VA, US
S. Richard Turner - Blacksburg VA, US
International Classification:
C08G 63/199
C08G 63/183
C08G 63/185
Abstract:
Copolyesters are based on a diacid component containing terephthalate and 4,4′-biphenyl dicarboxylate or 3,4′-biphenyl dicarboxylate, and a diol component containing an alkylene diol, e.g., ethylene glycol or NPG, and an alicyclic polyhydroxyl compound, e.g., CHDM. The copolyesters may have a glass transition temperature more than 100 C. and mechanical, thermal and/or barrier characteristics at least comparable to some commercially available copolyesters. A method to control the morphology and properties of a copolyester involves contacting diacid and diol components in the presence of a catalyst, selecting proportions of terephthalic and 4,4′-biphenyl dicarboxylic or 3,4′-biphenyl dicarboxylic acids or ester producing equivalents thereof in the diacid component, and selecting the alkylene diol and proportions of the CHDM (or other alicyclic polyhydroxyl compound) and the alkylene diol in the diol component, to obtain the desired morphology and other properties.

Bibenzoate Copolyesters And Methods To Produce Them

View page
US Patent:
20180282475, Oct 4, 2018
Filed:
Oct 7, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/571025
Inventors:
- Baytown TX, US
- Blacksburg VA, US
Ting Chen - Friendswood TX, US
Timothy E. Long - Blacksburg VA, US
S. Richard Turner - Blacksburg VA, US
International Classification:
C08G 63/185
C08G 63/83
C08G 63/85
C08J 5/00
C08J 5/18
Abstract:
Bibenzoate copolyesters are based on (4,4′-biphenyl dicarboxylic acid-co-3,4′-biphenyl dicarboxylic acid) as the diacid component, and on an alicyclic diol compound such as 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol as a portion of the diol component. Copolyesters are based on 4,4′-biphenyl dicarboxylic acid, and/or 3,4′-biphenyl dicarboxylic acid as the diacid component and may include a multifunctional acid. Copolymers may optionally base an essentially amorphous morphology, high glass transition temperature, high elongation at break, and/or high melting temperature. A method to make the copolymers controls the characteristics of the copolyester selected from one or a combination of amorphous morphology or degree of crystallinity, Tg, Tm, tensile modulus, flexural modulus, elongation at break, and so on, by selecting the proportions of the 4,4′-biphenyl dicarboxylic acid or ester producing equivalent thereof, 3,4′-biphenyl dicarboxylic acid or ester producing equivalent thereof, and/or the proportion of the 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol in the diol component.
