Gate For Domestic Farm Animals, An Automated Milking Facility Including Such A Gate, And Method Of Training Domestic Farm Animals To Use Such A Gate

View page
US Patent:
7810450, Oct 12, 2010
Filed:
Jan 5, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/620192
Inventors:
Luke G. Sensenig - Reinholds PA, US
International Classification:
A01J 3/00
A01J 5/00
US Classification:
119 1403
Abstract:
Cows are milked at a facility including a robotic milker, a pen, a first passage leading from the pen to the milker, and a second passage leading from the milker to the pen. Each passage includes a one-way gate. Each gate includes a barrier that turns about a horizontal axis from a quiescent position in only a first direction in response to the cows pushing against the barrier and turns in the opposite direction about the axis to the quiescent position after each cow has passed through the barrier. The barrier includes plural tines that turn independently of each other about the axis in both directions. In normal operation, the quiescent position of the tines is vertical. For training, the quiescent position of the tines is displaced from the vertical so the tines are above the heads of the animals but below their backs.

US Patent:
20080011433, Jan 17, 2008
Filed:
Jul 12, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/456993
Inventors:
Luke G. SENSENIG - Reinholds PA, US
International Classification:
A47H 1/00
US Classification:
160330, 160332
Abstract:
Disclosed is a curtain system for a side of a shelter for domestic animals, wherein the side is open except for an animal restraining grid and the curtain system. The system includes an elongated tube horizontally mounted outside the grid. The tube carries a shaft about which an elongated curtain is wound. A horizontally extending end of the curtain protrudes through a slot of the tube. A drive raises and lowers the tube relative to the grid and winds and unwinds the curtain to raise and lower the curtain relative to the grid. The raising and lowering of the tube are independent of the winding and unwinding of the curtain. A fixed cable keeps the tube and curtain proximate the grid.
