Abstract:
Color cosmetic compositions include a rheology modifier (thickener) and film-former copolymer which is a crosslinked, linear copolymer of poly(vinyl amide polymerizable carboxylic acid) e. g. poly(vinyl pyrrolidone-acrylic acid), which is compatible with iron oxides generally present in such compositions, e. g. gel and emulsion color cosmetic formulations such as gel eyelid enhancers, oil-in-water emulsion eyeliner and oil-in-water emulsion foundation products.

Abstract:
What is described herein are compositions for treating hair and skin containing a cationic polymer derived from an N-vinyl lactam, preferably vinyl pyrrolidone (VP), a dimethylaminoalkylmethacrylamide, preferably dimethylaminopropyl methacrylamide (DMAPMA) and a quaternized Cto Calkyl dimethylaminoalkyl(meth)acrylamide, preferably quaternized dimethylaminopropyl(meth)acrylamide (QDMAPMA) in a cosmetically acceptable concentration range. Hair, skin and other personal care compositions which include these and similar polymers described herein exhibit low tackiness, superior fixative properties and high humidity resistance as well as excellent penetrating and conditioning properties for oxidizing or reducing compositions as required in hair coloring, bleaching and permanent waving while further promoting hair texture and shine.

Abstract:
A method of protecting dyed hair color from fading or wash-out during exposure to air and/or shampooing is described. In accordance with one aspect the method includes treating dyed hair with a composition containing (i) a hydrophobically modified quaternary polymer, (ii) a hydrophobically modified polymer plus a cationic surfactant, (iii) a polymer containing diethylaminopropyl methacrylamide (DMAPMA), dimethylaminoethyl methacrylamide (DMAEMA) or diethylaminoethyl methacrylamide (DEAEMA) or (iv) a combination thereof.

Provided herein are thickened compositions produced upon assembling a first sub-formulation having a hydroxide, and at least one second sub -formulation having an alkaline material, wherein at least one sub-formulation is thickened by lightly-to moderately-crosslinked PVP. Unlike other compositions not having the lightly-to moderately-crosslinked PVP, those described herein maintain or even build viscosity when the first and second sub -formulations are blended. Abstract:
What is described herein are derivatized polymers of. alpha. -olefin-maleic anhydride alkyl half-ester or full acid, preferably the isobutylene compound, optionally with repeat units of maleamic acid and/or its corresponding maleimide therein. These polymers are useful as fixatives in personal care products, such as hair spray compositions, particularly as one-phase, low VOC formulations in pump and aerosol systems, and in anhydrous, alcoholic, aqueous-alcoholic and in high hydrocarbon tolerant solvent formulations. Abstract:
