Apparatus For Machine Tool Feedrate Override Using Limiting Parameters Corresponding To Actual Spindle Speed

View page
US Patent:
7508152, Mar 24, 2009
Filed:
Aug 29, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/214261
Inventors:
Liangji Xu - Kent WA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
G05B 19/25
US Classification:
318571, 318573, 318570, 318569, 700173
Abstract:
An apparatus, machine tool, and method for adaptively controlling a feedrate of a machine tool are provided in which a plurality of maximum spindle power and/or radial load values, each corresponding to a spindle rotational speed, are received, stored and applied. Additionally, the current spindle power and/or the current radial load, along with the current spindle rotational speed may be received. The current spindle power and/or the current radial load may be compared to the maximum spindle power and/or radial load corresponding to the current spindle rotational speed, such that the feedrate may be reduced if the current spindle power and/or the current radial load exceed the corresponding maximum spindle power and/or radial load for the current spindle rotational speed or increased if the current spindle power and the current radial load are below the corresponding maximum spindle power and/or radial load for the current spindle rotational speed.

Adaptive Control Of Composite Plycutting

View page
US Patent:
8180479, May 15, 2012
Filed:
Feb 5, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/025899
Inventors:
Liangji Xu - Kent WA, US
Stephen Halladin - Renton WA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
700173, 700160, 700170, 700175
Abstract:
The feed rate of an ultrasonic knife used to cut composite material is optimized using adaptive control. One or more parameters such as ultrasonic power or side load on the knife is sensed and used to generate feedback control signals. The feedback control signals are used to optimize the commanded feedrate of the knife.

System And Method For Performing Modal Analysis Of At Least One Remote Structure

View page
US Patent:
20040093191, May 13, 2004
Filed:
Nov 12, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/292041
Inventors:
Jan Jeppsson - Sumner WA, US
Liangji Xu - Kent WA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
G06F017/50
US Classification:
703/001000
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for performing a modal analysis of at least one structure across a wide area network (WAN). The system includes at least one data acquisition assembly and at least one central processing element. The data acquisition assemblies are capable of acquiring data from the structure, where the data comprises an input force measurement and a response measurement. The data acquisition assemblies are also capable of transmitting the data across the WAN. In turn, the central processing elements can receive the data and thereafter perform a modal analysis of the structure based upon the data.

Real-Time Numerical Control Tool Path Adaptation Using Force Feedback

US Patent:
20150127139, May 7, 2015
Filed:
Feb 10, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/176492
Inventors:
- Chicago IL, US
Samuel J. Easley - Saint Peters MO, US
Liangji Xu - Renton WA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
G05B 13/02
US Classification:
700173
Abstract:
A method for machining a workpiece using a cutting tool attached to a spindle. The method comprises: (a) defining an initial tool path of the cutting tool relative to a workpiece using part definition data; (b) causing the cutting tool to cut along the defined initial tool path relative to the workpiece; (c) receiving sensor data representing machining process conditions during said cutting along the defined initial tool path; (d) processing the sensor data to determine a value of a machining process force parameter; and (e) causing the cutting tool to cut along a modified tool path relative to the workpiece such that the radial cutting depth changes and values of the machining process force parameter does not exceed a machining process force constraint. Operations (b) through (e) are performed by a computer system.
