Filed:
Sep 12, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/950968
Inventors:
Gary Robert Larson - Hatfield PA
Leo Joseph Procopio - Lansdale PA
William Joseph Rosano - Hatboro PA
Otto C. Ziemann - North Wales PA
Assignee:
Rohm and Haas Company - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
C09D14302
US Classification:
526274, 524547, 524565, 524806, 524807, 524818, 524831, 524832, 526279, 526287, 526316, 5263171, 526342
Abstract:
A binder composition for aqueous coatings that exhibit high gloss and superior corrosion resistance when applied to metal substrates comprising an aqueous emulsion copolymer, the copolymer including as polymerized units, at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and an ethylenically unsaturated strong acid monomer, such as phosphorus containing monomers, particularly phosphoethylmethacrylate; or salts thereof. Also provided is a method for achieving high gloss and superior corrosion resistance of metal substrates by coating a substrate with an aqueous coating composition comprising the binders of the present invention and drying, or allowing to dry, the aqueous composition.

William Joseph Rosano - Hatboro PA, US
Gary Robert Larson - Hatfield PA, US
Leo Joseph Procopio - Lansdale PA, US
Albert Mulligan Dager - Warrington PA, US
Gary David Greenblatt - Rydal PA, US
Assignee:
Rohm and Haas Company - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
C08J003/00
C08K003/20
C08K009/00
C08L041/00
C08L043/00
US Classification:
524401, 524497, 524430, 524432, 524433, 524436, 524547, 524556, 523200
Abstract:
An aqueous composite particle composition containing composite particles and polyvalent metal ion is provided. The composite particles contain pigment particle with adsorbed polymer particles. The polymer particles contain pendant acid functional groups and has a molecular weight in a select range. Also provided are methods of preparing the aqueous composite particle composition. The aqueous composite particle composition is useful for preparing coating with high gloss and improved solvent resistance.

Method For Providing A Gloss Coated Cementitious Substrate

View page
US Patent:
20020022688, Feb 21, 2002
Filed:
Jun 21, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/886183
Inventors:
Theodore Tysak - Ambler PA, US
Mark Frazza - Philadelphia PA, US
Leo Procopio - Lansdale PA, US
International Classification:
B05D003/02
C08K003/00
US Classification:
524/558000, 427/393600
Abstract:
The method of the present invention provides a coated cementitious substrate with a glossy appearance, dirt pick-up resistance, and efflorescence resistance. The method includes the steps of applying a coating formulation onto a green cementitious substrate and of curing the coated green cementitious substrate. The coating formulation contains an emulsion polymer with a molecular weight in the range of 30,000 to 300,000 and a glass transition temperature in the range of -10 C. to 60 C. Also provided are an emulsion polymer including a photoinitiator monomer as polymerized unit, a coating formulation including photoinitiator molecule, and a coating formulation including an ethylenically unsaturated polymer.
