Abstract:
Material is deposited from an active shutter onto a substrate located in a processing chamber housing with a shutter target coupled to a shutter target assembly. A first target assembly located in the housing supports a target for physical-vapor deposition of a first material onto the substrate. A shutter is selectively moveable to extend into a closed or activated position and to retract into an open position. The shutter target assembly is coupled to the shutter such that when the shutter is in the closed position, the shutter target assembly is positioned to allow deposition of material from the shutter target onto the substrate. When the shutter is in the open position, the first target is positioned to deposit material onto the substrate. Alternating layers of materials may be deposited by the shutter target and first target by cycling the shutter between an open position and a closed position.

An apparatus and method supports thermal processing of a microelectronic device such as a semiconductor chip in a substrate by heating the substrate with secondary radiation from an energy transfer device , which has a first set of energy transfer regions comprised of an emissive and thermally conductive material, and a second set of thermally insulating regions comprised of a reduced emissivity and reduced thermal conductivity material or free space. A multi-zone-radiant energy source provides radiative energy to energy transfer device , with a process controller , preferably a multi-zone controller, altering the amount of energy provided by each heat zone associated with each emissive region of energy transfer device. Sensors detect the thermal energy level of each energy transfer region to allow controller to adjust the secondary radiation emitted by each region in real time, resulting in a predetermined and controlled distribution of thermal energy on substrate. Energy transfer device can have plural emissive and thermally conductive concentric rings separated from each other by reduced emissivity and reduced thermal conductivity regions such as free space gaps.

A Neodymium-Iron-Boron permanent magnet which is substantially wider across a first axis than across the perpendicular second axis. The second axis is the axis defining the north and south poles of the magnet. At one of the poles is a permalloy cap which is substantially parallel to the first axis and inhibits the extension of magnetic flux from that pole and encourages instead a deep extension of the magnetic flux from the other pole. An aperture penetrates the magnet through the second axis which is wider at the pole away from the permalloy cap than it is at the pole adjacent to the permalloy cap. The shape of this aperture causes a distortion of the deeply extending magnetic flux lines at the pole away from the permalloy cap to be pinched inward toward the second axis rather than being parallel to it. The magnet thus provides a concentrated magnetic force that extends deeply out of its base so that the magnet can be placed on the exterior of a vessel or conduit with the result that the fluid inside is treated with optimized magnetic force.

Apparatus and methods for detecting a lock in a phase-locked loop (PLL) are disclosed. In one aspect, a lock detect component includes a reference multiplier and a lock detect. The reference multiplier can receive a reference signal, a divider signal, and a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) output generated by a VCO in a PLL from which the divider signal is generated. The reference multiplier can also generate a multiplied reference signal using the reference signal and the VCO output. The multiplied reference signal can have a frequency that is an integer multiple of a frequency of the reference signal. The lock detect can detect a phase lock of the reference signal and the divider signal based at least in part on comparing a signal generated from a delayed reference signal and a signal generated from a delayed divider signal for a predetermined period of time.

Disclosed is an improved washing machine equipped with means for generating microbubbles of air in the detergent-containing water circulated from and to the stationary outer tub of the washing machine. Disclosed means for generating microbubbles of air in the detergent-containing water circulated therethrough comprises: (a) an upstream detergent-containing water guide tube connected to the bottom portion of the stationary outer tub; (b) strainer means for filtering out fiber and other foreign object materials contained in the detergent-containing water, which is connected to the upstream water guide tube; (c) air-bubble introducing/feeding means into the detergent-containing water, which is connected to the strainer means; (d) a high-speed single-stage type or multi-stage type pump for generating microbubbles of air; (e) a motor coupled to the pump; (f) a plenum for the mixture of the microbubbles of air and the detergent-containing water under pressure; (g) a pressure-regulator valve for buildup of pressure for the mixture in the plenum; and (h) a downstream microbubble-containing water guide tube connected between the pressure-regulator valve and the outer tub so that the detergent-containing water in the outer tub is circulated therethrough as far as the pump is in operation; whereby each of the air bubbles introduced by suction or pressure feeding into the detergent-containing water through the air-bubble introducing means either by suction or by pressure feeding is dynamically broken into a plurality of microbubbles of air by the leading edge of rotor and/or stator blade of either high-speed single-stage or multi-stage pump.
