View page
US Patent:
46453792, Feb 24, 1987
Filed:
Oct 3, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/538386
Inventors:
R. LeRoy Grimsley - Ponca City OK
Len J. Gawel - Ponca City OK
Assignee:
Conoco Inc. - Ponca City OK
International Classification:
B65G 500
E02D 2900
US Classification:
405210
Abstract:
An underwater storage structure comprising an internally segmented tetrahedron and/or hexahedron, said self supporting structure having a fluid impermeable covering and an internally segmented skeleton. The structure can be subdivided internally by fluid impermeable coverings allowing ballast, such as water or sand slurry or the like, to be utilized to counter the bouyancy of internal voids formed by the subdivisions of the structure.

Bacterial Production Of Lipase And Pyocyanine From N-Paraffins

View page
US Patent:
40199592, Apr 26, 1977
Filed:
Oct 6, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/620490
Inventors:
Len J. Gawel - Ponca City OK
Assignee:
Continental Oil Company - Ponca City OK
International Classification:
C12D 1310
C07G 702
US Classification:
195 66R
Abstract:
A method of producing lipase and pyocyanine from n-paraffins by growing a pseudomonas-like hydrocarbon oxidizing bacteria thereon and extracting the lipase and pyocyanine from the intracellular portion of the bacterium.

Sulfate Reducing Bacteria Determination And Control

View page
US Patent:
49992864, Mar 12, 1991
Filed:
Dec 23, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/946547
Inventors:
Len J. Gawel - Ponca City OK
Thomas Ng - Portola Valley CA
James M. Odom - Wilmington DE
Richard C. Ebersole - Wilmington DE
Assignee:
E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
G01N 3350
G01N 3353
C12Q 168
US Classification:
435 732
Abstract:
Sulfate reducing bacteria are detected by preparing a lysate so as to release an enzyme essential to derive energy by reduction of sulfate such as adenosine 5'-phosphosulfate reductase (APS reductase), containing the lysate with an antibody for the enzyme, and detecting the presence of the reaction product of the enzyme and the antibody. In one aspect, sulfate reducing bacteria are controlled responsive to such assay. In another aspect, a "test kit" is provided for carrying out the assay.

Pyramidal Offshore Structure

View page
US Patent:
44377940, Mar 20, 1984
Filed:
Jan 29, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/229425
Inventors:
R. Leroy Grimsley - Ponca City OK
Len J. Gawel - Ponca City OK
Assignee:
Conoco Inc. - Ponca City OK
International Classification:
B63B 3544
US Classification:
405224
Abstract:
Tethered or bottom-ballasted offshore platforms preferably have a pyramidal configuration. Struts connect the apexes of a polyhedron configuration to form a triangle defining each face. The pyramidal configuration can be ballasted to the bottom in relatively shallow water. A hexadron configuration can be tethered in deep water with tension members and flotation members.
