Gas Range Construction

View page
US Patent:
47184000, Jan 12, 1988
Filed:
Dec 24, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/945900
Inventors:
Lawrence C. Lotz - Marion OH
Franklin D. Garrison - Marion OH
Assignee:
Whirlpool Corporation - Benton Harbor MI
International Classification:
F24C 1500
F24C 300
US Classification:
126 41R
Abstract:
According to the invention, a universal frame is provided for use in both high and low broiler configuration gas ranges. The range frame has a housing with an internal wall surface defining a cooking space. A gas burner is mounted in the cooking space between a main oven compartment and a broiling compartment in the low broiler configuration. Structure is provided to selectively mount a wall within the cooking space to shield the lower compartment from the heating element. The lower compartment can thereby be adapted for use as a storage compartment in a high broiler configuration. With the wall omitted, the heating element is directly exposed to the bottom compartment for broiling therein.

Indicating Control Structure

US Patent:
41300807, Dec 19, 1978
Filed:
May 31, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/801835
Inventors:
Lawrence C. Lotz - Marion OH
Assignee:
Whirlpool Corporation - Benton Harbor MI
International Classification:
G09F 940
H01C 1032
US Classification:
116 2
Abstract:
An indicating control structure for use in an appliance, such as a microwave oven, having a rotatably adjustable mechanism, such as the power level control thereof. The control includes a slider and a guide for guiding the slider reversibly along a preselected path. Integrally formed with the slider is a drive transmission for rotating the mechanism to a desired adjusted disposition as a result of a corresponding movement of the slider along the path. An indicator structure is associated integrally with the slider for indicating the disposition of the slider and, correspondingly, the adjusted disposition of the mechanism. The slider may define a flat plate with the guide slidably engaging the side edges of the plate to guide the slider in a substantially rectilinear path. The indicator structure may define an indicator and window which are selectively moved relative to a fixed adjacent indicium with the disposition of the window being displayed by a suitably associated illuminating device. The slider may be provided with a handle having opposed flat surfaces extending substantially perpendicular to the path of movement of the slider for facilitated control of the rotational disposition of the mechanism.

Oven Door Full Front Viewing Panel

US Patent:
40746771, Feb 21, 1978
Filed:
Jun 16, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/696533
Inventors:
Lawrence C. Lotz - Marion OH
Assignee:
Whirlpool Corporation - Benton Harbor MI
International Classification:
F23M 704
US Classification:
126198
Abstract:
A door construction having a full front viewing panel. An improved structure is provided for mounting the viewing panel in a front frame portion of the door. The mounting structure includes a plurality of resilient bumpers engaging an edge portion of the transparent panel. Retaining clips are provided for retaining the bumpers in securing association with the transparent panel. The frame is provided with recesses for receiving a positioning portion of the retaining elements to effect a desired clamping of the transparent panel by the resilient bumpers. The frame may be secured to the liner of the door by threaded securing elements and the retaining elements may be secured in the door further by the threaded securing elements. The door may comprise a hollow door having top and bottom openings for conducting ambient air therethrough to maintain a desired low temperature of the front transparent panel. The openings may be disposed adjacent the panel mounting elements.
