System And Method Of Selecting Ggsn In A Mobile Communications Network

View page
US Patent:
6545992, Apr 8, 2003
Filed:
Apr 30, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/845703
Inventors:
Shamim A. Naqvi - Boston MA
Murali Aravamudan - Windham NH
Rangamani Sundar - Windham NH
Kumar K. Vishwanathan - Windham NH
Assignee:
Winphoria Networks, Inc. - Tewksbury MA
International Classification:
H04Q 724
US Classification:
370335, 370342
Abstract:
A method and system of determining a GGSN to serve data calls in a mobile communications network is provided. Messages are received from a SGSN, and analyzed to determine if the message is requesting the identity of a GGSN. If the received message is requesting the identity of a GGSN, a GGSN selection algorithm is executed to identify a GGSN to serve data calls from a specified MS. A reply is then constructed and sent to the SGSN identifying the selected GGSN.

System And Method Of Fault Management In A Mobile Communications Network Having A Proxy Switch

View page
US Patent:
6625420, Sep 23, 2003
Filed:
Nov 22, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/721331
Inventors:
Shamim A. Naqvi - Boston MA
Kumar K. Vishwanathan - Windham NH
Rangamani Sundar - Windham NH
Murali Aravamudan - Windham NH
Assignee:
Winphoria Networks, Inc. - Tewksbury MA
International Classification:
H04B 1700
US Classification:
455 8, 455 9, 455423, 455424, 455 671, 455566
Abstract:
A proxy switch, communication methods, and communication logic for use in a mobile network are described. A proxy switch is deployed between a base station subsystem and a mobile station center. It receives signaling messages and either retransmits them, blocks them, converts them, or siphons them to an alternative network. Besides providing an ability to offload offload mobile traffic it provides a platform for new communication services. A proxy switch includes signaling message handling logic for receiving signaling messages from the MSC and BS in accordance with said mobile signaling protocol. Message transmission logic issues messages to the MSC and BS. A FSN and a BSN are provided for communication with the MSC, and another FSN/BSN pair are provided for communication with the BS. Logic detects whether a received message is a change over order message (COO) from one of the MSC and BS, indicating a break in a first signaling link between the proxy switch and the one of the MSC and BS, and logic generates and sends a COA message to the one of the MSC and BS containing the BSN maintained by the switch for communication with the one of the MSC and BS. Fault emulation logic forces a break in a second signaling link between the proxy switch and the other of the MSC and BS, wherein the second signaling link is configured to correspond to the first signaling link, and generates and sends a new COO message to the other of the MSC and BS.

Inventors:
Shamim A. Naqvi - Boston MA
Kumar K. Vishwanathan - Windham NH
Rangamani Sundar - Windham NH
Murali Aravamudan - Windham NH
Assignee:
Winphoria Netwroks, Inc. - Tewksbury MA
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
455428, 455560, 455432, 455433, 455435, 455436, 370237, 370354, 370356
Abstract:
A proxy switch, communication methods, and communication logic for use in a mobile network are described. A proxy switch is deployed between a base station subsystem and a mobile station center. It receives signaling messages and either retransmits them, blocks them, converts them, or siphons them to an alternative network. Besides providing an ability to offload mobile traffic it provides a platform for new communication services. A proxy switch includes signaling message handling logic for sending and receiving signaling messages to and from the MSC on a first signaling link and sending and receiving messages to and from the BS on a second signaling link; wherein the second link has a mapped correspondence to the first link. Message interception logic detects whether a signaling message from an MSC is a COO, indicating that the MSC will not receive signaling messages on the first signaling link. The message interception logic also prevents the COO from being forwarded to the BS and generates and sends a change over acknowledge (COA) message to the MSC.

A mobile communications network has at least one BS, at least one MS, at least one MSC, and at least one switch in communication with at least one of the BSs and the at least one of the MSCs. A BS is in trunk line communication with the switch and the trunk line communication is organized as bearer circuits, each bearer circuit identifiable with a circuit identification code (CIC). The switch receives signaling messages from the BS and determines if a call corresponding to the signaling message is to be handled by the alternative communication network. If so, the switch assigns a CIC for a bearer circuit for the call and communicates the CIC to the BS.

Besides providing an ability to offload offload mobile traffic it provides a platform for new communication services. The proxy switch includes signaling message handling logic that receives signaling messages from the MSC and BS in accordance with a mobile signaling protocol. State logic maintains state information of call sessions and mobile stations (MSs) used within the mobile communications network. Message interception logic detects whether a signaling message from an MSC is a new call originating message and if an MS addressed in such a new call originating message is involved in a call. The message interception logic also prevents the new call originating message from being forwarded to the BS servicing the addressed MS.

Collaborative Browsing Of The Internet

View page
US Patent:
6732145, May 4, 2004
Filed:
Aug 27, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/141088
Inventors:
Murali Aravamudan - Freehold NJ
Andreas Constantine Papanicolaou - Lincroft NJ
Kumar K Vishwanathan - Holmdel NJ
Assignee:
ATT Corp. - New York NY
International Classification:
G06F 1516
US Classification:
709204
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a technique for collaborative browsing among users at two or more different PCs. In an illustrative system in accordance with the present invention, copies of selected URLs are shared among collaborating PCs, each of which uses the URL to retrieve the corresponding document. In this system, a PC is configured to select hyperlinks for itself and one or more other PCs. Each URL corresponding to a selected hyperlink is communicated via the Internet (using standard Internet protocols) to a server. The server broadcasts the URL to the collaborating PCs each of which retrieves the corresponding document in conventional fashion. The server knows the IP addresses of the collaborating PCs through a collaboration set-up process which occurs in advance of the actual collaborative browsing session.

Among other things, to handle mobility management within the network, a proxy switch includes signaling message handling logic for receiving signaling messages from the MSC and BS in accordance with a mobile signaling protocol. The switch also includes state logic for maintaining state information of call sessions and mobile stations (MSs) used within the mobile communications network, and message interception logic for detecting whether the signaling message is a handoff message from a MS. The message interception logic prevents the handoff messages from being forwarded to the MSC if the MS is involved in the call, and if the MSC is not involved in the call. The switch further includes message conversion logic for converting a handoff message to a location update message for transmission to the MSC if the MS is involved in the call, and if the MSC is not involved in the call; and message transmission logic for transmitting the handoff messages to the MSC if the MS is not involved in the call.
