Control Of Vehicle Driveline Torque

View page
US Patent:
20140067229, Mar 6, 2014
Filed:
Sep 5, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/603540
Inventors:
Bradley D. Riedle - Northville MI, US
Brad W. Probert - Farmington Hills MI, US
Jianping Zhang - Ann Arbor MI, US
Kenneth E. Sovel - Commerce Township MI, US
Assignee:
FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLC - DEARBORN MI
International Classification:
F02D 28/00
US Classification:
701102, 701101
Abstract:
A method for controlling a vehicle driveline includes determining, for current vehicle operating conditions, an initial engine output torque, at which the driveline meets predetermined structural criteria, establishing a factor that varies with torque converter slip, determining an engine torque limit by multiplying the factor corresponding to a current torque converter slip by the initial engine output torque, and limiting torque produced by an engine connected to the driveline to the engine torque limit.

Input Torque Control During Transmission Shift

View page
US Patent:
20180118217, May 3, 2018
Filed:
Oct 24, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/791729
Inventors:
- Dearborn MI, US
Bradley Dean Riedle - Northville MI, US
Jianping Zhang - Ann Arbor MI, US
Kendrick Morrison - Wayne MI, US
Kenneth Edward Sovel - Commerce Twp. MI, US
International Classification:
B60W 30/19
B60W 10/06
B60W 10/115
Abstract:
A controller commands an engine torque level in response to a driver demanded torque based on an accelerator pedal position. If the driver demanded torque decreases rapidly during or just prior to a torque phase of a shift, the controller commands the engine to temporarily generate torque exceeding the driver demand. The controller sets a nominal engine torque equal to the driver demand torque before the rapid decrease, slowly decreases the nominal engine torque during the torque phase, and decreases the nominal torque at progressively faster rates during the inertia phase to bring the nominal torque back into agreement with the driver demanded torque. The commanded engine torque is based on the nominal torque, but may be less than the nominal torque during the inertia phase to permit the engine speed to decrease faster.

Adaptation Of Off-Going Clutch Torque

US Patent:
20180119756, May 3, 2018
Filed:
Oct 28, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/337952
Inventors:
- Dearborn MI, US
Jaewon CHOI - Northville MI, US
Cory Benson LAROCHE - Wixom MI, US
Kenneth Edward SOVEL - Commerce Twp. MI, US
International Classification:
F16D 48/06
F16H 61/02
F16H 3/66
Abstract:
A vehicle includes a transmission and a controller. The transmission has clutches and multiple speed ratios that are established during gear upshifts upon torque being transferred from off-going to oncoming clutches. The controller is programmed to, in response to a difference between actual and target times of a desired flare at a transmission input exceeding a threshold during an upshift, adjust the torque of the off-going clutch during a torque transfer phase of a subsequent upshift based on the difference.
