Online Fiber Optic Sensor For Detecting Partial Discharge And Similar Events In Large Utility Station Transformers And The Like

View page
US Patent:
20050194979, Sep 8, 2005
Filed:
Mar 5, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/794177
Inventors:
Harry Roman - East Orange NJ, US
Kenneth Farmer - Lake Elmo MN, US
Xiaodong Wang - East Newark NJ, US
Baoqing Li - Harrison NJ, US
International Classification:
G01R031/08
G01R031/12
H01H009/50
US Classification:
324536000
Abstract:
An approved method and apparatus for detecting partial discharge events within a transformer comprises asserting a MEMS acoustical probe through the wall of the transformer to optically measure partial discharge events. In an enhanced embodiment, temperature compensation is also possible, and detection may be confirmed via an independent electromagnetic or other sensor.

US Patent:
47900920, Dec 13, 1988
Filed:
Aug 18, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/896321
Inventors:
Kenneth R. Farmer - Atlanta GA
International Classification:
G09F 1500
US Classification:
40607
Abstract:
A display sign has a panel supported on a horizontal arm which is cantilevered on a vertical post. A slot is formed in the horizontal arm and the panel is supported in the slot. The horizontal arm includes a pair of parallelly extending, spaced-apart channel members and a pair of spacers, one of which is inserted at each end of the channel members. The spacers span the channel members and join them together. The slot in the horizontal arm is formed by a gap between the spaced apart channel members. One type of panel which has an upper portion with a width greater than the width of the lower portion is supported in the slot by the spacers. Another type of panel having a lower portion greater in width than in its upper portion and a neck portion with a pair of cutouts is supported in the slot by pivotably mounted plates which engage in the cutouts. In one embodiment, the horizontal arm is pivotally mounted on the vertical post so that it may be pivoted upwardly and over the post into substantially parallel, side-by-side relation with the post for storage or transportation. In another embodiment, the horizontal arm is removably supported on the vertical post by brackets.

US Patent:
53075803, May 3, 1994
Filed:
Aug 10, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/926652
Inventors:
Kenneth R. Farmer - Smyrna GA
International Classification:
G09F 1500
US Classification:
40606
Abstract:
A safety display sign includes a wire post member having spaced apart wire legs extending from a rounded end portion. The wire legs extend through the channels of a corrugated polyethylene sign panel, and project therefrom a sufficient distance to permit secure fixation in the ground. An extruded polyethylene base member is provided with two slotted passages integrally formed at opposite side edges of the base member to receive and grip the wire legs in a unitary assembly which prevents the sign panel from sliding along the length of the wire legs. The polyethylene base is positioned along the length of the wire legs and is urged against the edge of the sign panel by the ground or other supporting surface to secure the sign panel at the top portion of the post.

Method Of Formation Of Thin Bonded Ultra-Thin Wafers

View page
US Patent:
58438327, Dec 1, 1998
Filed:
Mar 1, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/396237
Inventors:
Kenneth R. Farmer - Newark NJ
Thomas G. Digges - Fredericksburg VA
N. Perry Cook - Fredericksburg VA
Assignee:
Virginia Semiconductor, Inc. - Fredericksburg VA
International Classification:
H01L 2176
US Classification:
438406
Abstract:
A technique of bonding a thin wafer layer to a substrate. The wafer is blown dry using an inert gas to prevent it from being damaged, while still ensuring that it dries completely. The initial bonding is done by orienting crystallographic axes, and then allowing the wafers to adhere to one another slowly. The contact wave is prevented from spreading, by a divider between the two wafers. The wafers are allowed to adhere to one another slowly to form a bond. The bond is strengthened by annealing.
