Jun 8, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/591095
Inventors:
Katayoon Dehesh - Vacaville CA
Byron Froman - Davis CA
Assignee:
Calgene LLC - Davis CA
International Classification:
C07H 2104
US Classification:
536 236, 536 231, 800295, 800298, 435419, 435468, 435471
Abstract:
The invention provides novel polynucleotide and polypeptide sequences involved in fatty acid beta-oxidation and to methods of producing such polypeptides using recombinannt techniques. In addition, methods are provided for using such sequences to alter lipid levels in plants by altering fatty acid beat-oxidation in host plant cells.

Plant Fatty Acid Synthases And Use In Improved Methods For Production Of Medium-Chain Fatty Acids

View page
US Patent:
6660849, Dec 9, 2003
Filed:
Apr 9, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/057996
Inventors:
Katayoon Dehesh - Vacaville CA
Assignee:
Calgene LLC - Davis CA
International Classification:
C07H 2104
US Classification:
536 236, 536 232
Abstract:
By this invention, compositions and methods of use related to -ketoacyl-ACP synthases. Of special interest are synthases obtainable from Cuphea species. Amino acid and nucleic acid for synthase protein factors are provided, as well as methods to utilize such sequences in constructs for production of genetically engineered plants having altered fatty acid compositions. Of particular interest is the expression of synthase protein factors in conjunction with expression of plant medium-chain acyl-ACP thioesterases for production of increased levels and/or modified ratios of medium-chain fatty acids in oils of transgenic plant seeds.

US Patent:
6706950, Mar 16, 2004
Filed:
Jul 25, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/915182
Inventors:
Katayoon Dehesh - Vacaville CA
Assignee:
Calgene LLC - Davis CA
International Classification:
C12N 1531
US Classification:
800281, 800278, 800286, 800306, 800312, 8003201, 800288, 435419, 536 237, 536 245
Abstract:
This invention relates to sequences encoding -ketoacyl-ACP synthase (KAS) and methods of use thereof. Also provided are methods for decreasing saturated fatty acid levels as a component of total triglycerides found in plant oils. The method generally comprises growing a soybean plant having integrated into its genome a DNA construct comprising, in the 5â to 3â direction of transcription, a promoter functional in a soybean plant seed cell, a DNA sequence encoding a KAS protein, and a transcription termination region functional in a plant cell. The present invention also provides a soybean seed with less than about 3. 5 weight percent total saturated fatty acids.

Engineering B-Ketoacyl Acp Synthase For Novel Substrate Specificity

View page
US Patent:
6770465, Aug 3, 2004
Filed:
Jun 9, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/591279
Inventors:
Katayoon Dehesh - Vacaville CA
Dale Val - Woodland CA
Assignee:
Calgene LLC - Davis California CA
International Classification:
C12N 910
US Classification:
435193
Abstract:
Methods of altering substrate specificity of beta-ketoacyl-ACP synthase, and engineered beta-ketoacyl-ACP synthases so produced are provided. DNA sequences and constructs for expression of engineered beta-ketoacyl-ACP synthases, as well as the novel beta-ketoacyl-ACP synthases produced therefrom are also provided. Such DNA sequences may be used for expression of the engineered beta-ketoacyl-ACP synthases in host cells, particularly seed cells of oilseed crop plants, for the modification of fatty acid composition.
