Water Filter Assembly

View page
US Patent:
20030205518, Nov 6, 2003
Filed:
May 6, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/140123
Inventors:
Karen VanderKooi - Grand Rapids MI, US
Roy Kuennen - Caledonia MI, US
Steve Mork - Lowell MI, US
International Classification:
B01D029/58
US Classification:
210/315000, 210/489000, 210/493100, 210/502100
Abstract:
A filter assembly designed for use in a water treatment system is provided. The assembly includes an inner carbon-based filter and an outer replaceable pleated filter. Untreated water flows first through the outer filter, which traps particulates, and then through the inner carbon-based filter, which traps particulates and adsorbs contaminants from the water. The outer filter is intended to be easily removed from the inner filter, so that the outer filter can be removed and cleaned or replaced when plugged with particulates. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims. 37 C.F.R. 1.72(b).

Bacteriostatic Fluid Filter

Filed:
Dec 3, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/003290
Inventors:
Roy Kuennen - Caledonia MI, US
Karen VanderKooi - Grand Rapids MI, US
Roy Taylor - Rockford MI, US
Anne Hoyt - Lowell MI, US
International Classification:
B01D039/02
US Classification:
210503000, 210506000, 210266000
Abstract:
A bacteriostatic water filter comprised of a contiguous block of activated carbon, copper, and binder, and the method of making the same. According to one embodiment, the block is comprised of between 60% and 80% by weight of activated carbon with a mesh size of about 40×140. The block is further comprised of 2% to 15% copper particles by weight, based on the combined weight of the activated carbon, the copper particles, and the binder, and 15% to 25% by weight of carbon block binder, based on the combined weight of the activated carbon, the copper particles, and the binder. According to another embodiment, the activated carbon is comprised of silver treated activated carbon.

Abstract:
A portable water treatment system includes at least one sub-system to treat water including a flocculation system, a chlorination system, and a bio-sand filter system. The water treatment system may include multiple sub-systems for treating water that feed into one another. The sand filter system may include a mini bio-sand filter, a foam filter, or a pressed block filter. The flocculation system may include a tank bottom that urges settling particles toward a sump and a ladle that removes settled particles. A manual pump or siphon may be included in the water treatment system.

Water Treatment System With Sealing Enclosure

View page
US Patent:
20130048550, Feb 28, 2013
Filed:
Aug 22, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/214659
Inventors:
Michael E. Miles - Grand Rapids MI, US
Karen J. VanderKooi - Grand Rapids MI, US
Terry L. Lautzenheiser - Nunica MI, US
Karlis Vecziedins - Caledonia MI, US
Assignee:
ACCESS BUSINESS GROUP INTERNATIONAL LLC - Ada MI
International Classification:
B01D 35/30
US Classification:
210251
Abstract:
A water treatment system having a sealing enclosure for separating an electronics module from a water treatment assembly within the housing of the water treatment system. The sealing enclosure is a one-piece component having a perimeter seal that extends continuously around the periphery of the sealing enclosure. The perimeter seal is configured to directly engage the housing to automatically create a seal as the sealing enclosure is installed in the housing. The sealing enclosure includes a stationary portion and a movable portion joined along a living hinge. The movable portion covers an accessible compartment and can be selectively swung open about the living hinge to provide access to the interior of the accessible compartment, for example, to replace the batteries. The movable portion can be closed to reengage the housing and reestablish the seal. The electronics module may include an electronic components mounting bracket. The sealing enclosure may be mounted to the bracket. The sealing enclosure may be configured to interfit with support features in the bracket.
