Power Saver Circuit For Tfel Edge Emitter Device

View page
US Patent:
52276961, Jul 13, 1993
Filed:
Apr 28, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/874862
Inventors:
Juris A. Asars - Murrysville PA
Assignee:
Westinghouse Electric Corp. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
G09G 310
G09G 330
US Classification:
3151693
Abstract:
An improved power saving drive circuit is provided for a multiplexed thin film electroluminescent (TFEL) array having a number of edge emitter devices. The drive circuit includes a charge circuit and a discharge circuit operatively connected to a load capacitance. Although the charge and discharge circuits may contain common elements, the discharge circuit usually has fewer windings than the charge circuit. A voltage regulator is provided to maintain the voltage on the load capacitor during the interval between charging and discharging thereof.

Display Panel With Simplified Thin Film Interconnect System

US Patent:
41140702, Sep 12, 1978
Filed:
Mar 22, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/780138
Inventors:
Juris A. Asars - Murrysville PA
Assignee:
Westinghouse Electric Corp. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
H05B 3700
H05B 3900
H05B 4100
US Classification:
315169TV
Abstract:
An electro-optic display panel is described in which thin film electronic circuitry is associated with individual display medium elements disposed upon a substrate. Rows and columns of interconnecting bus bars are minimized by utilizing the bus bars on a time shared basis.

Electroluminescent Bargraph With Integral Thin-Film Transistor Control Circuitry

View page
US Patent:
41106644, Aug 29, 1978
Filed:
Apr 15, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/787801
Inventors:
Juris A. Asars - Murrysville PA
David H. Davies - Wilkins Township, Allegheny County PA
Thomas P. Brody - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
Westinghouse Electric Corp. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
H05B 3700
H05B 3900
H05B 4100
US Classification:
315169TV
Abstract:
An electroluminescent bargraph display module is detailed with an integral multi-stage thin-film transistor dynamic shift register disposed upon the module substrate side-by-side with the individually controllable electroluminescent display elements. The shift register accepts serial digital data input and holds it stationary in the register and supplies parallel outputs from the respective stages which are connected to individual display elements.

Full Color Tfel Edge Emitter Printing System

View page
US Patent:
56127286, Mar 18, 1997
Filed:
May 20, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/247635
Inventors:
Zoltan K. Kun - Churchill PA
David Leksell - Oakmont PA
Gerald J. Faychak - McKeesport PA
Juris A. Asars - Murrysville PA
Assignee:
Westinghouse Electric Corporation - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
B42J 247
B42J 2435
US Classification:
347232
Abstract:
A color printing system including thin film electroluminescent (TFEL) edge emitter devices and an electronic interface for driving the TFEL devices. The TFEL edge emitter devices form a multi-color TFEL edge emitter structure operable for emitting a plurality of different colors of light onto a media. The electronic interface receives gray scale data for pixels and converts it into a serial data stream used to drive pixels in the TFEL edge emitter structure. The electronic interface further includes a compensation memory for compensating for pixel variations in the TFEL structure. The compensation memory can be periodically recalibrated "in place" during the life of the printing apparatus.

Optically Coupled Remote Sensor Apparatus And System

View page
US Patent:
48990442, Feb 6, 1990
Filed:
Apr 29, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/188245
Inventors:
J. Richard Hansen - Wilkins, Twp., Allegheny County PA
Juris A. Asars - Murrysville PA
Robert M. Oates - Murrysville PA
Assignee:
Westinghouse Electric Corp. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
G01D 534
US Classification:
250227
Abstract:
An optically coupled remote sensor apparatus comprises a tuned circuit incorporating a sensor and a light emitting diode (LED) connected in parallel with the tuned circuit. The natural resonant frequency of the tuned circuit is determined by the sensor whose electrical parameter is a function of the condition to be sensed. The sensed condition correlates to a frequency of light pulses emitted from the LED, which light pulses are only emitted when the pulsed light source frequency coincides with the natural resonant frequency of the tuned circit.
