Single-Crystalline Silicon Alkaline Texturing With Glycerol Or Ethylene Glycol Additives

View page
US Patent:
8440494, May 14, 2013
Filed:
May 20, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/112465
Inventors:
Kathryn C. Fisher - Brooklyn NY, US
Jun Liu - Irvington NY, US
Satyavolu S. Papa Rao - Poughkeepsie NY, US
George G. Totir - Newtown CT, US
James Vichiconti - Peekskill NY, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
H01L 21/00
US Classification:
438 71, 438745, 257E21214
Abstract:
Alternative additives that can be used in place of isopropyl alcohol in aqueous alkaline etchant solutions for texturing a surface of a single-crystalline silicon substrate are provided. The alternative additives do not have volatile constituents, yet can be used in an aqueous alkaline etchant solution to provide a pyramidal shaped texture surface to the single-crystalline silicon substrate that is exposed to such an etchant solution. Also provided is a method of forming a textured silicon surface. The method includes immersing a single-crystalline silicon substrate into an etchant solution to form a pyramid shaped textured surface on the single-crystalline silicon substrate. The etchant solution includes an alkaline component, silicon (etched into the solution as a bath conditioner) and glycerol or ethylene glycol as an additive. The textured surface of the single-crystalline silicon substrate has (111) faces that are now exposed.

Hybrid Porous Materials For Controlled Release

View page
US Patent:
20020122828, Sep 5, 2002
Filed:
Mar 2, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/798603
Inventors:
Jun Liu - Murray Hill NJ, US
International Classification:
A61K009/14
A61K009/16
A61K009/50
US Classification:
424/497000
Abstract:
Hybrid porous materials useful for releasing bioactive materials in response to an external stimulus at a constant release rate are formed of a porous inorganic gel having a polymer network integrated within the pores of a porous gel. The hybrid porous material is made by forming a mixture of a polymer precursor, a cross linking agent, an initiator, an alcohol, a ceramic precursor, water and an acid. The mixture is then formed either by first polymerizing the polymer precursor to form a polymer network, and then forming the ceramic precursor into a porous inorganic gel, or by first forming the ceramic precursor into a porous inorganic gel and then polymerizing the polymer precursor to form a polymer network. Either approach will yield a porous inorganic gel having a polymer network integrated within the pores of the porous gel.

Inverted Pyramid Texture Formation On Single-Crystalline Silicon

View page
US Patent:
20130025663, Jan 31, 2013
Filed:
Jul 27, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/192088
Inventors:
Jun Liu - Irvington NY, US
Qiang Huang - Croton on Hudson NY, US
Young-hee Kim - Mohegan Lake NY, US
Assignee:
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION - Armonk NY
International Classification:
H01L 31/0236
H01L 31/18
US Classification:
136256, 438 71, 257E3113
Abstract:
A method for texturing a single-crystalline silicon substrate is provided in which inverted pyramids are formed within the textured single-crystalline silicon substrate. The textured single-crystalline silicon substrates containing the inverted pyramids provided by the present disclosure have a low reflectance associated therewith and thus can be used as a component of a silicon solar cell. The method includes forming a plurality of openings that extend beneath an upper surface of a single-crystalline silicon substrate, and forming inverted pyramids in each of the openings by expanding each opening.

Buried Selective Emitter Formation For Photovoltaic Devices Utilizing Metal Nanoparticle Catalyzed Etching

View page
US Patent:
20130045562, Feb 21, 2013
Filed:
Aug 18, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/212740
Inventors:
Jun Liu - Irvington NY, US
Qiang Huang - Croton on Hudson NY, US
Young-Hee Kim - Mohegan Lake NY, US
Assignee:
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION - Armonk NY
International Classification:
H01L 31/18
US Classification:
438 72, 257E3112
Abstract:
A method of forming a photovoltaic device containing a buried emitter region and vertical metal contacts is provided. The method includes forming a plurality of metal nanoparticles on exposed portions of a single-crystalline silicon substrate that are not covered by patterned antireflective coatings (ARCs). A metal nanoparticle catalyzed etching process is then used to form trenches within the single-crystalline silicon substrate and thereafter the metal nanoparticles are removed from the trenches. An emitter region is then formed within exposed portions of the single-crystalline silicon substrate, and thereafter a metal contact is formed atop the emitter region.

Zero Communication Block Partitioning

View page
US Patent:
20140037228, Feb 6, 2014
Filed:
Jul 25, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/950535
Inventors:
Alban Lefebvre - Jersey City NJ, US
Axel Loewe - Monmouth Junction NJ, US
Mariappan S. Nadar - Plainsboro NJ, US
Jun Liu - Plainsboro NJ, US
Assignee:
SIEMENS CORPORATION - Iselin NJ
International Classification:
G06T 1/20
US Classification:
382304
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method for calculating a multi-dimensional wavelet transform in an image processing system comprising a plurality of computation units includes receiving multi-dimensional image data. An overlap value corresponding to a number of non-zero filter coefficients associated with the multi-dimensional wavelet transform is identified. Then the multi-dimensional image data is divided into a plurality of multi-dimensional arrays, wherein the multi-dimensional arrays overlap in each dimension by a number of pixels equal to the overlap value. A multi-dimensional wavelet transform is calculated for each multi-dimensional array, in parallel, across the plurality of computation units.

Enegry-Saving Keyboard

View page
US Patent:
55857922, Dec 17, 1996
Filed:
Oct 24, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/328077
Inventors:
Jun Liu - Weehawken NJ
Ioannis Milios - New York NY
Assignee:
USAR Systems Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
H03K 1794
US Classification:
341 22
Abstract:
An improved energy-saving keyboard with low parts count accomplishes a sophisticated regime of low-power mode intervals in response to key closures and communications from the computer to which the keyboard is connected. An interrupt pin of the keyboard controller (encoder) prompts the transition from low-power mode to normal mode. The communications from the computer is synchronous communications mediated by a clock line, and the interrupt pin is tied not to the clock line but to the data line of the synchronous channel. The interrupt pin is also tied to a resistor array providing pullup biases to the keyboard matrix; in normal-power mode a discrete output of the encoder forces the common point of the resistor array to a fixed voltage level. In low-power mode, on the other hand, the discrete output is not asserted, and the resistor array is pulled high by a pullup impedance of relatively high resistance to the fixed voltage level. In this way, any key closure at the keyboard triggers the interrupt.
