Abstract:
An aqueous ambient dry decorative or protective coating comprising a film forming matrix polymer of an aqueous emulsion polymer of aqueous copolymerized ethylenically unsaturated monomers modified with at least 3% by weight of a low molecular weight oligomer of copolymerized hydroxy alkanoic acid having 2 to 4 carbon atoms having a number average molecular weight between 300 and 10,000 to provide a film forming binder substantially free of volatile organic coalescing solvents. Preferred oligomers are homopolymers and copolymers of polymerized lactic acid or polymerized glycolic acid.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for preparing an organic solvent-based dispersion comprising a melt-blended network of an epoxy-functional and/or amino-functional polymer having a polymer-O—Si—O-polymer linkage and a polyolefin (co)polymer having carboxylic acid and/or carboxylic acid anhydride groups, the process comprising the steps of a) forming the melt-blended network from a prepolymer, a silane-functional compound and the polyolefin (co)polymer in the absence of a solvent, b) mixing the melt-blended network with an organic solvent to make the organic solvent-based dispersion, and c) cooling the organic solvent-based dispersion. The invention further relates to a coating composition and to a coated metal substrate.

The invention includes an aqueous coating composition having a substituted succinimide compound, wherein the substituted succinimide compound has an acid value of at least about 30 mg KOH/g of the substituted succinimide compound. The substituted succinimide compound may be the reaction product of an unsaturated oil comprising at least one non-aromatic unsaturated carbon-carbon bond, a polymer derived from the unsaturated oil, or a combination thereof with maleic anhydride and a primary amine.
