Data Scanning And Conversion System For Photographic Image Reproduction

View page
US Patent:
6351321, Feb 26, 2002
Filed:
May 12, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/076533
Inventors:
Dale Frederick McIntyre - Honeoye Falls NY
Joseph Anthony Manico - Rochester NY
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
H04M 140
US Classification:
358450, 358 111
Abstract:
A system for scanning film image frames containing both an image and recorded information optically imprinted on the image by a camera and reproducing the image with enhanced text reproduction. In print or Photo CD image reproductions, the text appears outside the reproduced image or is enhanced within the reproduced image for better readability. Recorded information is detected in the lateral and longitudinal stripe regions of the film image frame where such information is typically exposed by a camera having the capability is analyzed for its characteristic color hue and pattern. When present, the recorded characters or code patterns are recognized or decoded into ASCII code and formatted for printing or writing to Photo CD to appear as enhanced font text. In a full frame operating mode, an ID code of the data bits corresponding to the characters or code is generated for use in a re-touching algorithm to fill in the data bits so that the full image frame may be printed or recorded to Photo CD. In other variations, the characters may be enhanced to appear in the reproduced image.

Interactive Image Storage, Indexing And Retrieval System

View page
US Patent:
6408301, Jun 18, 2002
Filed:
Feb 23, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/256652
Inventors:
David L. Patton - Webster NY
Philip R. Ashe - Rochester NY
Joseph A. Manico - Rochester NY
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
G06F 1730
US Classification:
707102, 707 3, 707104
Abstract:
An image storage, indexing and retrieval system is disclosed in which a plurality of images are storable in digital form (on a writeable DVD), each with an associated information file, the associated information file including metadata which has been automatically captured and stored and/or input by a user. Metadata is automatically captured via the camera. The user can also input metadata via the camera at the time of image capture, or via a player/recorder system and its various interfaces when the captured images are added to an interactive database stored in random access memory. The user may designate one or more elements of the metadata of the associated information file as an image link for each of the image files, and further the user may specify more than one image links for each of the image files. All of the images having a common image link form a group of images, and the user can determine a sequence of display of all of the digital image files any group. An index is created of all of the image links associated with any of the image files and this index is communicated to the user.
