Method And Apparatus For Real Time Measurement Of Three Phase Electrical Parameters

View page
US Patent:
6397157, May 28, 2002
Filed:
Jul 2, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/347309
Inventors:
Joseph A. Hogle - Roanoke VA
Michael G. Wise - Roanoke VA
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G01R 2500
US Classification:
702 65, 702 60, 324 7653, 324 86, 324107
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for determining, in real time, the key parameters of a three phase system electrical generators output. A pair of reference vectors in quadrature (orthogonal) is phase-locked to a selected input open delta line to line voltage vector. Preferably, the cosine reference vector is locked 45Â out of phase from the selected input vector whereby a best projection of the input vector onto the quadrature pair is provided and increases accuracy in subsequent magnitude and phase calculations. The phase-locked reference vectors provide a basis for computing the magnitude and phase angle for the remaining open delta line to line voltage vectors and three line to neutral current vectors. Instantaneous measurement of magnitude and phase angle for the three line to line voltages and three line to neutral currents, the generators real power (watts), volt-amperes reactive (VARS), apparent power (VA), power factor (PF) and, as a result of the phase locking, the precise frequency of the generator are possible.

Systems And Methods For Suppressing Pressure Waves Using Corrective Signal

View page
US Patent:
6879922, Apr 12, 2005
Filed:
Sep 19, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/682559
Inventors:
Joseph Alan Hogle - Roanoke VA, US
Michael Glynn Wise - Roanoke VA, US
Steven Mark Shaver - Rocky Mount VA, US
Michael Eugene Austin - Roanoke VA, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G06F019/00
US Classification:
702 98, 702 85
Abstract:
A method for providing a corrective modulation signal to suppress an acoustic pressure wave in an operational system. The method includes sampling the acoustic pressure wave generated in the operational system; sampling a previously generated corrective modulation signal; performing fast Fourier transform processing on the sampled acoustic pressure wave; a pair of single frequency discrete Fourier transform processing is performed on the sampled acoustic pressure wave; determining the frequency, phase and magnitude of a dominate pressure wave in the acoustic pressure wave based on the fast Fourier and discrete Fourier transform processing; generating a sinusoidal corrective modulation signal to suppress the acoustic pressure wave based on the frequency, phase and magnitude of the dominate pressure wave and the parameters of the previously generated corrective modulation signal, the corrective modulation signal being at substantially the same frequency as, and generally 180 degrees out of phase with, the acoustic pressure wave.

Vibration Phasor Monitoring System For Rotating Members

View page
US Patent:
6263738, Jul 24, 2001
Filed:
Aug 25, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/382623
Inventors:
Joseph A. Hogle - Roanoke VA
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G01H 100
US Classification:
73593
Abstract:
A vibration phasor monitoring system for real time determination of a vibration phasor magnitude and angle including a quadrature detector, implemented in software or hardware, whose reference phasors are locked in phase, via hardware, to a physical reference point on a rotating shaft. A vibration transducer and a transducer that senses a complete revolution of the shaft are disposed around the shaft. The transducers may be axially separated along the shaft. A clocking arrangement is implemented to determine the shaft angle at the time an output of the vibration transducer is read. Thereafter, the sine and cosine of the determined shaft angle are obtained and are used to multiply the vibration transducer output reading thereby resulting in respective projections of the vibration phasor on the sine and cosine reference phasors. These projections are then manipulated to obtain the vibration phasor angle and magnitude. Harmonic analysis in easily implemented by multiplying the generated shaft angle.
