Serverless Network Data Storage Operation Managed By Peripheral Device

View page
US Patent:
20030225966, Dec 4, 2003
Filed:
May 31, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/158195
Inventors:
Jorgen Frandsen - Boulder CO, US
International Classification:
G06F012/00
US Classification:
711/111000, 711/162000
Abstract:
A peripheral device includes a data operation controller () which manages a serverless network data storage operation for either writing data (e.g., backing up data) or reading data (e.g., restoring backed-up data). In an example embodiment, the peripheral device is an I/O drive (), such as a magnetic tape drive, situated at a peripheral node of a storage area network (). In the network data storage operation, data is obtained (under the direction of the peripheral device-resident data operation controller) from a source drive storage medium at a source drive, transmitted through the peripheral device's interface with the storage network, and then recorded (under the direction of the peripheral device-resident data operation controller) by a destination drive on a destination drive storage medium. In one embodiment in which the peripheral device that has the data operation controller is an I/O drive, the medium handled by the I/O drive can be the medium on which data is written or from which data is read. Thus, the I/O drive which has the data operation controller can itself be the destination drive for a write (e.g., backup) procedure or the source drive for a read (e.g., restore) procedure. In other embodiments, the I/O drive that has the data operation controller need not be either the destination drive nor the source drive, as both the destination drive and the source drive can be external drives of the storage area network (e.g., situated on the storage network at nodes apart from a node whereat the I/O drive resides).

Balanced Horizontal Axis Assembly For Use In An Automated Memory Cartridge System

View page
US Patent:
54565693, Oct 10, 1995
Filed:
Nov 16, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/153547
Inventors:
Samuel D. Cheatham - Golden CO
Jorgen Frandsen - Louisville CO
Daniel J. Plutt - Boulder CO
Assignee:
Storage Technology Corporation - Louisville CO
International Classification:
B66C 2300
US Classification:
4147443
Abstract:
For primary use in a storage and retrieval subsystem in a data processing system, a robotic transfer system acts to transfer selected electronic magnetic storage cartridges between their storage and transducing positions, typically between vertically stacked concentric tape storage holders and a selected tape drive. The robotic transfer system for handling tape cartridges includes two hands, each mounted on a separate vertical axis disposed at opposite ends of a balanced rotating horizontal axis, such that no tape cartridge is ever more than 90. degree. away from the nearest hand. The use of two hands also provides a redundant data retrieval capability without concentrating the weight of two hands at a single end of a revolving horizontal arm, thus reducing the moments generated by angular movement and providing for faster tape access time and greater long-term system reliability.

Electrical Validation Of A Purported Finger

View page
US Patent:
20190050623, Feb 14, 2019
Filed:
May 8, 2017
Appl. No.:
16/086710
Inventors:
- Oslo, NO
Jorgen FRANDSEN - Broomfield CO, US
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
Abstract:
A fingerprint authorisable smartcard comprises an active capacitance fingerprint sensor and an array of electrodes positioned on a bezel surrounding a scan area of the fingerprint sensor The smartcard is configured to supply a driving voltage signal for the fingerprint sensor via driving electrodes and to supply a plurality of time-varying property measurement voltage signals via emitting electrodes The smartcard is further configured to detect the property measurement voltage signals, via respective detection electrodes after transmission through the finger. The smartcard verifies the identity of the bearer of the finger using the fingerprint sensor , and validates physical properties of the finger using the detected property measurement voltage signals.

Systems And Methods For Fluid Testing

View page
US Patent:
20160022172, Jan 28, 2016
Filed:
Jul 23, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/339345
Inventors:
- Wheat Ridge CO, US
Jorgen Frandsen - Broomfield CO, US
International Classification:
A61B 5/08
A61B 5/097
G01N 27/30
Abstract:
Implementations disclosed herein provide a method of determining a quantity of an electrochemically convertible substance in a fluid sample, the method comprising introducing the fluid sample into an electrochemical sensor, wherein at least a portion of the fluid sample is electrochemically converted to produce an electrical output from the electrochemical sensor, measuring the electrical output from the electrochemical sensor on a periodic basis to produce sensor measurements, inputting a first subset of the sensor measurements into a first computation to yield first computation analysis results, inputting a second subset of the sensor measurements and the first computation analysis results into a second computation to yield second computation analysis results, and calculating the quantity of the electrochemically convertible substance in the fluid sample by applying a third computation to the first computation analysis results and the second computation analysis results.
