A channelized Wavelength Division Multiplex (WDM) equalizer enables the gain of each WDM channel to be individually controlled, enabling power adjustments of each channel over the equalizers entire dynamic range. The gain equalizer includes a demultiplexer with each of its outputs interfaced to a different microelectromechanical system (MEMS) reflective device which adjusts optical power in response to a received control signal. The equalizer can be implemented to operate in a reflective mode or in a transmission mode.

Primary and secondary currents of a converter transformer in a double-ended converter are continuously monitored to detect the onset of saturation in the magnetic core of the transformer. When the onset condition is detected, the conductive roles of the oppositely phased switching transistors in the converter are reversed to limit and counteract the onset of saturation in the magnetic core of the transformer.

A universally positionable holder securely holds a book or other printed matter in any position. A selectively shaped back plate has a frontal lip at its lower portion and projecting pegs extending from a lower portion of the back plate. A plurality of spaced projecting pegs extend from the upper portion of the back plate. Hold-down stays are pivotably mounted near the top of the back plate and attachment means are provided on the back of the back plate. Elastic bands may be affixed to the lower pegs and stretchably secured across a book cover to any of the plurality of spaced projecting peg means extending from and along the upper portion of the back plate which is attached via a ball-joint to a universally positionable support arm comprised of arm segments and joints, mounted upon a base that may be mounted either by clamp or by screws.

A circuit is described which maintains the current flowing toward a main circuit within a prescribed limit, regardless of instantaneous voltage or current changes. The circuit includes elements that maintain the current flow in a path toward a main circuit within a prescribed limit by selectively changing the impedance presented in response to any instantaneous change in the voltage flowing toward the main circuit and by introducing into the path a voltage which opposes any such instantaneous change in the current flowing toward the main circuit. Elements may also be provided to protect the main circuit by disconnecting same from a cable leading thereto after signals on the cable have been analyzed and a determination has been made that a signal outside of predetermined upper and lower limit values has been coupled to the cable, for example, from a high altitude electromagnetic pulse. Elements may also be provided to periodically trip and reset the protective circuit before the line to the main circuit is opened, so that an operating mode of the protective circuit can be tested without interrupting the power to the main circuit.
