Stack Loading And Unloading Cart

View page
US Patent:
7645108, Jan 12, 2010
Filed:
Feb 26, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/788080
Inventors:
John C. Benko - Westlake OH, US
International Classification:
B62B 1/12
US Classification:
414490, 4147938, 4147967, 280 4729
Abstract:
A cart includes a projecting load receiving platform mounted on a slide frame in turn mounted for vertical movement on a main frame. A spring mechanism urges the slide frame and platform to an elevated position so that objects may be stacked on the platform without placing them on the floor. As the weight of the stack on the platform increases the platform starts to descend until the cart is full. Conversely as items are removed from the top of the stack the platform elevates so the operator doesn't have to pick up an object from the floor. The spring mechanism uses a plurality of air springs each with a different load rating and operating in a cascading fashion. A pivoting weight operated latch holds the platform in its bottom position until released by a kick plate.

Mezzanine Safety Gate

View page
US Patent:
20050005522, Jan 13, 2005
Filed:
Jul 7, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/614520
Inventors:
John Benko - Westlake OH, US
International Classification:
E06B003/68
US Classification:
049050000
Abstract:
A mezzanine safety gate for a mezzanine staging area maintains a clear aisle along the edge of the mezzanine and is supported at the edge by two minimal depth posts. Swing gates are provided between the posts at the edge. The posts include a roller guide track supporting a three sided cage or railing adapted to enclose the staging area when down. They also support two vertically spaced guide tubes for vertically elongated counterweights connected to the cage by cable pulleys at the top. The swing gates include guide tubes aligned with the counterweight guide tubes when closed. Spring loaded gate hinges are offset from the gate guide tubes. When the counterweights enter the gate guide tubes the gates are locked shut. Linear cams on the cage swing the gate open after being unlocked.

Device And Method For Communication Using Hybrid Modulation

View page
US Patent:
20090003484, Jan 1, 2009
Filed:
Jun 29, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/771977
Inventors:
Wei Li - Daly City CA, US
John Benko - San Francisco CA, US
International Classification:
H03K 7/06
US Classification:
375271
Abstract:
A method and system for modulating a signal includes providing a carrier including periodic waves, peaks of the periodic waves defining a carrier shape of the carrier; changing a plurality of the periodic waves so that peaks of the changed waves form a shaped signal having a signal shape which is different from the carrier shape; and detecting the shaped signal.

Voice Control Of Applications By Associating User Input With Action-Context Identifier Pairs

View page
US Patent:
20130246050, Sep 19, 2013
Filed:
Mar 15, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/835335
Inventors:
- Paris, FR
John Benko - San Francisco CA, US
Satya Mallya - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
FRANCE TELECOM - Paris
International Classification:
G10L 21/00
US Classification:
704 9
Abstract:
A method is provided for enabling or enhancing a use of voice control in a voice controlled application (VCA) via a development framework. The method includes: providing in the framework a plurality of action-context pairs—also called framework action-context pairs—usable in a memory of an application development device, which includes a processor, that serve to direct execution of the VCA, wherein the framework context defines a list of parameters related to the action and their respective value types; providing at least one of a voice recognition engine (VRE) and a natural language library to match each action-context pair with semantically related vocabulary; providing in the framework a registration mechanism that permits an association to be formed between an action-context pair and a handler in the voice controlled application. An associated development system for developing the VCA and user equipment that executes the VCA are provided as well.

Ergonomic Cart

View page
US Patent:
20140001721, Jan 2, 2014
Filed:
Jun 28, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/536096
Inventors:
John C. Benko - Westlake OH, US
International Classification:
B62B 1/00
US Classification:
280 4728
Abstract:
A transfer cart primarily designed for the beverage distribution industry permits the operator or driver to work at waist level when loading or unloading. The cart includes a lift plate mounted on a vertically movable carriage with a parallel pair of gas springs urging the plate to an elevated position so that the lift plate lowers or rises as weight is added or removed, respectively. The angle of the plate may be adjusted and folds out of the way when not in use to be held with a magnetic latch. The cart is designed for ergonomic transportation of both cases and kegs.

Vertically Movable Safety Railing

View page
US Patent:
50279220, Jul 2, 1991
Filed:
Aug 22, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/396668
Inventors:
John C. Benko - Westlake OH
Ronald J. Guerra - Huron OH
International Classification:
E04G 118
E04G 126
US Classification:
182113
Abstract:
A vertically movable safety railing system for providing a safety railing enclosed area on top of mobile equipment such as railroad tank cars, tank trucks, and the like, characterized by an elevated stationary platform and a safety railing assembly mounted relative to the platform. The safety railing assembly includes a vertically movable mast, a cantilever arm attached to the mast, a vertical movement unit and an open-bottomed safety railing cage secured to the arm. The vertical movement unit includes either a pneumatic or electric motor operated jack, or alternatively a hydraulic piston-cylinder assembly. These vertical movement units act as means for vertically moving the mast relative to the structural member or platform between an elevated position where the safety railing cage is elevated above the mobile equipment and a lower position where the safety railing frame substantially contacts the equipment, enclosing a portion of the top of the equipment to provide a safety railing enclosed area.

Heater Cabinet

View page
US Patent:
46991190, Oct 13, 1987
Filed:
Sep 29, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/912302
Inventors:
John C. Benko - North Ridgeville OH
Glen H. Blythe - Mentor OH
International Classification:
A21B 108
US Classification:
126 20
Abstract:
A heater cabinet which utilizes a source of steam heat to elevate to a predetermined working temperature various industrial containers and the contents thereof. Containers suitable for use with the heater cabinet include barrels, drums, pails, nondisposable and disposable liquibins, and the like. In a preferred embodiment the cabinet includes a plurality of insulated walls which define an enclosure. Access to the enclosure is provided by a pair of swinging doors hinged to the front wall of the cabinet. Mounted near the bottom of the enclosure is an open grate for supporting containers placed within the enclosure for heating. Beneath the grate and contiguous therewith is a steam coil for connection to a source of steam which imparts heat into the enclosure. Below the steam coil is a drip pan for collecting and containing any spillage or drippage which may inadvertently flow from the container. The drip pan is provided with a drain outlet which opens through the bottom wall outside the cabinet and serves to drain the contents of the pan and release any pressure that may form within the enclosure.
