Hydrotreating Supercritical Solvent Extracts In The Presence Of Alkane Extractants

View page
US Patent:
43977367, Aug 9, 1983
Filed:
Apr 1, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/249804
Inventors:
Jim Y. Low - Bartlesville OK
Assignee:
Phillips Petroleum Company - Bartlesville OK
International Classification:
C10G 104
C10G 2114
US Classification:
208 11LE
Abstract:
A process of recovering the hydrocarbon values from low organic carbon content deposits comprises the hydrotreating of hydrocarbons from those deposits in the presence of supercritical alkane-containing solv.

Upgrading Carbonaceous Materials

View page
US Patent:
47087889, Nov 24, 1987
Filed:
Jul 16, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/631366
Inventors:
Jim Y. Low - Bartlesville OK
Assignee:
Phillips Petroleum Company - Bartlesville OK
International Classification:
C10G 106
C10G 4700
C10G 4702
US Classification:
208390
Abstract:
A liquefaction process for coal lignite or heavy oil is disclosed utilizing a hydrogen-donor solvent. The preferred hydrogen-donor solvent is recovered as a vapor from the liquefaction mixture. The preferred method for converting the vapor into active hydrogen-donor solvent form involves passage of the vapor over a catalyst bed positioned in the vapor space of the catalyst vessel. Novel apparatus for so positioning the catalyst bed is also disclosed.

Aluminum Promoted Hydrogenation Of Alkylation Sludge For Aluminum Chloride Recovery

View page
US Patent:
60045191, Dec 21, 1999
Filed:
Jan 2, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/775522
Inventors:
Elliott P. Doane - Oklahoma City OK
Jim Yuen-Fong Low - Missouri City TX
Larry G. Sherman - Edmond OK
William A. Yuill - Edmond OK
Assignee:
Kerr-McGee Corporation - Oklahoma City OK
International Classification:
C01F 756
US Classification:
423111
Abstract:
The recovery of aluminum chloride from deactivated alkylation catalyst complexes by hydrogenation using hydrogen gas and an aluminum catalyst is disclosed. Using aluminum to catalyze the hydrogenation allows the reaction to proceed at a lower temperature and pressure while reducing the amount of hydrogen chloride present in the reactor thus reducing the corrosiveness and cost of the aluminum chloride recovery. Methods for batch, batchwise continuous, and continuous aluminum chloride recovery are disclosed.

Anode Grade Coke Production

View page
US Patent:
63329751, Dec 25, 2001
Filed:
Nov 30, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/452069
Inventors:
Tayseer Abdel-Halim - The Woodlands TX
Raymond H. Floyd - Katy TX
Jim Y. Low - Missouri City TX
Jon C. Moretta - Houston TX
Michael A. Silverman - Houston TX
Harold D. Sloan - Tomball TX
Assignee:
Kellogg Brown & Root, Inc. - Houston TX
International Classification:
C10G 914
C10B 5702
US Classification:
208131
Abstract:
The invention is a process for making anode grade coke which comprises solvent deasphalting a residue feedstock to obtain an essentially asphaltene-free, resin-containing stream and coking the resin-containing stream in a delayed coker to make anode coke. The solvent deasphalting can make a deasphalted oil stream containing resin or separate deasphalted oil and resin streams. There can be hydrotreating of (1) a minor portion of the residue feedstock wherein the hydrotreated residue is fed to the delayed coker with the resin-containing stream, (2) the resin-containing stream wherein the hydrotreated resin stream is fed to the delayed coker, or (3) a major portion of the residue feedstock wherein the hydrotreated residue is fed to the solvent deasphalting unit.
