Abstract:
The present invention provides a graphical method to design and modify the trajectory of a well bore. A well bore trajectory plan is comprised of hold and curve sections. Hold sections are generally described by specifying the attitude of the hold and the length of the hold. Curve sections can be described and represented in a variety of ways. The present invention introduces control points that are formed at the intersection of extensions/projections of the two hold sections contacting a curve section. The hold sections contact the curve section at tangent points. The tangent points for a curve section have the same distance to the control point. In operation, as a control point is moved, the direction and inclination of multiple sections of the well plan are simultaneously modified. These simultaneous modifications enable the user to quickly and intuitively modify a well plan.

Abstract:
A system and method for hydraulic fracturing and monitoring microseismic events related to hydraulic fracturing are described. One method describes a method of hydraulic fracturing gas production comprising drilling and casing a gas production well with a horizontal section within a formation layer, perforating the horizontal section of the well at a known location, and monitoring the resulting seismic waves using an array of geophones. Using the seismic waves resulting from the perforation shot, subsequent microseismic events may be located using a root mean square velocity and average velocity and without the use of a depth velocity model.

Abstract:
A computer-implemented method of joint inversion of seismic data comprising receiving seismic data, selecting, by a computer system, a travel time data and waveform data, the selecting using the seismic data and generating a velocity model of a near-surface. The method comprises preparing parameters with which to update the velocity model by: calculating synthetic travel time data and synthetic waveform data; determining a travel time misfit gradient using the travel time data and synthetic travel time data; determining a wave-property misfit gradient based on the waveform data and the synthetic waveform data; calculating a join inversion gradient comprising the travel time misfit gradient and the wave-property misfit gradient; and estimating a step length. The method further comprises updating the velocity model using the step length and join inversion gradient; and repeating the preparing and updating steps until a travel time misfit and wave-property misfit reach a predetermined value.
