Filed:
Jun 5, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/461919
Inventors:
Jeno G. Szita - Norwalk CT
Subban Ramesh - Stamford CT
William Jacobs - Bethel CT
John Colin Brogan - Stamford CT
Assignee:
Cytec Technology Corp. - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
C08K 541
US Classification:
524167
Abstract:
Sulfonimide cure catalysts are used with aminoplast crosslinking agents and resins capable of reacting with aminoplast crosslinking agents to prepare heat curable compositions capable of crosslinking to form coatings and articles. Liquid or solid curable compositions may be prepared. Solid sulfonimide catalysts used in combination with solid glycoluril type crosslinking agents are well suited for powder coating systems containing hydroxy- and carboxy-functional resins.

Aminoplast-Anchored Ultraviolet Light Stabilizers

View page
US Patent:
55477534, Aug 20, 1996
Filed:
May 23, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/449401
Inventors:
Jeno G. Szita - Norwalk CT
Paul S. Waterman - Shelton CT
Assignee:
Cytec Technology Corp. - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
B32B 1900
C08G 1230
US Classification:
428357
Abstract:
Novel aminoplast anchored UV stabilizers are provided. Compared to unanchored stabilizers, the anchored stabilizers disclosed herein have increased compatibility with coating resins and have reduced volatility due to higher molecular weights resulting from anchoring. A process for preparing the anchored stabilizers by the reaction of unanchored stabilizers with alkoxymethylated aminoplasts in a sulfuric acid medium is also provided. The unanchored stabilizers include 2-(2-hydroxyaryl)benzotriazoles, 2-hydroxybenzophenones, 2-(2-hydroxyaryl)-4,6-diaryl-1,3,5-tri-azines, salicylic acid derivatives, 2-hydroxyoxanilides, and blocked derivatives thereof as well as mixtures of two or more stabilizers. The aminoplasts include alkoxymethylated derivatives of glycolurils, melamines, and benzoguanamines.

American Cyanamid Company - Stamford CT
International Classification:
C07D25118
C07D25170
US Classification:
544196
Abstract:
A process for synthesizing oxyalkylated polyamino-1,3,5-triazines involves reacting a hydroxyalkyl (C. sub. 2 -C. sub. 12) or hydroxyaryl polyamino-1,3,5-triazine with an alkylene oxide at an elevated temperature.

Monomeric Aminoplast Crosslinking Agents

View page
US Patent:
52946711, Mar 15, 1994
Filed:
May 13, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/060135
Inventors:
Jeno G. Szita - Norwalk CT
Robert G. Lees - Stamford CT
Assignee:
American Cyanamid Company - Stamford CT
International Classification:
C08G 1232
US Classification:
525187
Abstract:
A monomeric alkoxymethylated aminoplast crosslinking agent derived from a m-TMI/melamine 1:1 adduct and a process for its preparation is provided. The process comprises contacting melamine with M-TMI, contacting the adduct formed with formaldehyde, and contacting the hydroxymethylated adduct with an alcohol such as butanol. A curable composition comprising the monomeric aminoplast crosslinker and a polyfunctional active hydrogen-containing material is also provided. An improved method of coating using the curable composition to produce cured films or objects is also provided.
