Apparatus For Performing Doppler Correction In A Wireless Communications System

View page
US Patent:
6965753, Nov 15, 2005
Filed:
Aug 30, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/651820
Inventors:
David S. Miller - Carlsbad CA, US
Jeffrey A. Lorbeck - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
QUALCOMM Incorporated - San Diego CA
International Classification:
H04B007/185
US Classification:
455 121, 455 6716, 455427, 367 90, 367 94, 367904
Abstract:
Apparatus for Doppler correction in a wireless communications system, including a first frequency synthesizer for generating a carrier signal oscillating at a rate responsive to a first input, a counter coupled to the first input for generating a Doppler compensation signal, the counter having a clock input, and a second frequency synthesizer coupled to the clock input for generating a clock signal oscillating at a rate responsive to a rate input. The rate input is adjusted over time according to a predetermined sequence so that the Doppler compensation signal compensates for the Doppler effect experienced by, for example, ground-to-satellite communications in a satellite communications system.

Wireless Phone Link

US Patent:
20030114135, Jun 19, 2003
Filed:
Aug 31, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/386866
Inventors:
JEFFREY LORBECK - SAN DIEGO CA, US
International Classification:
H04H001/00
US Classification:
455/403000, 455/465000, 455/003050
Abstract:
A fixed phone arrangement for a satellite communications system is disclosed. A radio antenna unit is mounted in a location to provide optimum line of sight communication with one or more satellites so as to provide a wireless link to a central station over a first wireless link. A terminal unit is located in any convenient place that enables it to communicate with the radio antenna unit over a second wireless link, preferably using CT-1 frequencies.

System And Method For User Terminal Clock Error Measurement And Correction

View page
US Patent:
61819123, Jan 30, 2001
Filed:
Sep 9, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/150499
Inventors:
David S. Miller - Carlsbad CA
Jeffrey A. Lorbeck - San Diego CA
Assignee:
Qualcomm Inc - San Diego CA
International Classification:
H04B 7185
US Classification:
455 121
Abstract:
A method and apparatus useful for determining the accumulated error in a user terminal dock in a satellite communications system. The satellite communications system includes a gateway, a satellite with a known position and known velocity, and a user terminal having a deskew buffer clocked by a user terminal clock. The method includes the steps of computing the one-way signal delay between the satellite and the user terminal, computing a desired deskew buffer delay based on the computed one-way signal delay and a predetermined maximum value of said one-way signal delay, and computing the accumulated error in the user terminal clock based on the desired deskew buffer delay and the actual deskew buffer delay.
