Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for preventing a display component of a portable information handling system from opening when in an upside down position. The portable information handling system may include a base component coupled to the display component by a gravity lockout hinge. The gravity lockout hinge may include a shaft, a bearing channel having a bearing channel surface opposite the shaft, and a movable bearing disposed in the bearing channel. The gravity lockout hinge may, when the portable information handling system is in an upside down position and a gravitational force is exerted on the display component, exert a first frictional torque on the shaft that may cause the movable bearing to contact the shaft and the bearing channel surface, and exert a second frictional torque on the shaft that may prevent an angular position of the display component relative to the base component from being changed.

An information handling system hinge provides friction against rotational motion to generate torque that regulates housing portion relative position. Friction is generated by compression of friction elements with a super elastic wire under tension. For example, a nickel titanium alloy wire under two to eight percent strain provides a relatively low spring rate having consistent compression even as wear reduces the size of the friction elements.

Abstract:
An information handling system selectively extends a camera from a housing along an extension axis to collect light along a plane substantially perpendicular to the extension axis. A mirror structure coupled over a light sensor redirects light from along the plane towards the extension axis and into the light sensor. Distortions of the visual image captured by the light sensor are corrected at the information handling system, such as with a digital signal processor integrated with the light sensor. In one embodiment, the mirror structure moves to direct light from only a portion of the plane towards the light sensor.

Abstract:
A portable information handling system display has an OLED film disposed over front and rear faces of a substrate, such as a carbon fiber material. A protective cover is disposed over the OLED film with a folded portion along an end of the substrate, the protective cover hardened at the front and rear faces and left unhardened along the folded portion. In one example embodiment, a transparent bezel is placed over the folded portion with the OLED film presenting system information through the bezel, such as battery state, etc.
