Universal Transducer

View page
US Patent:
60792868, Jun 27, 2000
Filed:
Oct 26, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/178982
Inventors:
James E. Struble - Eaton Rapids MI
International Classification:
G01B 528
US Classification:
738665
Abstract:
A quick-change attachment mechanism for a measurement assembly. The attachment mechanism includes a female part and a male part. The female part includes a female body having a pin hole formed therein, and an engagement piece disposed in the female body and urged into the pin hole. The male part includes a male body having a connection pin attached thereto, the connection pin including a recess defining a ramped connection surface. The connection pin of the male part is adapted to be inserted into the pin hole of the female part, with the engagement piece of the female part engaging the ramped connection surface of the connection pin to attach the male part to the female part. The engagement piece may be a spring loaded ball detent device, for example, engaging a notch formed on the connection pin to releasably couple the male part and the female part. One of the male part and the female part may be attached to a measuring instrument, with the other of the male part and the female part attached to a measuring tip, thereby allowing the measuring tip to be releasably mounted on the measuring instrument. The invention also relates to measuring instruments which may be adapted to various measuring jobs by selectively mounting various measuring tips and support bases adapted to a chosen measuring job utilizing a quick-change attachment mechanism.

Fixture Rail Snap-Mountable Transducer Gage Assembly For Selectively Making Outline (Gap) And Contour Checks

View page
US Patent:
48317438, May 23, 1989
Filed:
Mar 21, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/171696
Inventors:
James E. Struble - Williamston MI
International Classification:
G01B 702
G01B 728
US Classification:
33561
Abstract:
A contour and outline transducer gage assembly for selectively making outline (gap) and contour checks of parts positioned proximate thereto is provided with a slidably movable carrier arm within the gage housing in selective spring biased operative engagement with a linear potentiometer fixedly provided within the gage housing. Selective movement of the carrier arm in relation to the linear potentiometer causes a gaging electrical signal to be generated for read-out on associated data collector means. A movable cover plate is provided externally of the gage housing in fixed actuating engagement with the movable carrier arm. An adjustable contour check pin suppor assembly is provided on the movable cover plate so as to provide selective horizontal, vertical and angularity adjustment of a part-engaging contour check pin mounted on the contour check pin support assembly. The contour check pin is thus adapted to make selective adjustable gaging contact with a part proximate thereto so as to cause corresponding gaging movement of the carrier arm in relation to the fixed linear potentiometer.

US Patent:
56575505, Aug 19, 1997
Filed:
Oct 12, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/543178
Inventors:
James E. Struble - Eaton Rapids MI
Assignee:
JS Research and Development, Inc. - Eaton Rapids MI
International Classification:
G01B 714
US Classification:
33548
Abstract:
A device for measuring the gap between the opposed facing surfaces of two adjacent parts, and simultaneously measuring the contour between outwardly facing surfaces of the parts. A gap measuring element is mounted to be movable along a first path relative to a first reference member carried by the main body. The first reference member is selectively engagable with one of the parts. The gap measuring element is insertable into the gap for engagement with the other of the parts. The gap measuring element is coupled to a transducer for generating a signal representative of the relative position of the gap measuring element along its path. The signal is proportional to the gap between the opposed facing surfaces of the parts. Additionally, a contour measuring element is mounted to be movable along a second path relative to a second reference member carried by the main body. The second reference member is selectively engagable with the outwardly facing surface one of the first and second parts.

Instrument Mount With Spring-Loaded Clamp

US Patent:
60733608, Jun 13, 2000
Filed:
Jan 22, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/012080
Inventors:
James E. Struble - Eaton Rapids MI
Assignee:
JS Research and Development, Inc. - Eaton Rapids MI
International Classification:
G01B 500
US Classification:
33783
Abstract:
A mount for mounting a measuring instrument, such as an electronic measuring transducer. The mount includes a spring operated clamp assembly for attaching the mount to a first part with a reference surface engaging a desired location on the first part. In one embodiment, the clamp assembly grips the first part between a clamp member and a clamp portion. The mount has an unclamping member which may be operated with one hand to selectively open the clamp. In another embodiment, the clamp assembly includes a first clamp member and a second clamp member urged by a spring relatively away from the first clamp member, each of the first and second clamp members having a grip by which the first and second clamp members may be urged together then selectively released to clamp the mount in a gap between the first part and a second part.
