Filed:
Sep 7, 2007
Appl. No.:
12/530365
Inventors:
Charles F. Ganem - Cape Neddick ME, US
Jake Ganem - Cape Neddick ME, US
Scott Ganem - Portsmouth NH, US
Assignee:
Dose One, LLC - Cape Neddick ME
International Classification:

US Classification:
12820321, 12820312, 12820315, 12820323, 604 58
Abstract:
A medication inhaler comprising an inhaler body, having a medication container chamber for receiving a medication container and an air passage coupling the medication container chamber with exterior air, and a mouthpiece axially engageable with the inhaler body. The mouthpiece has a mouthpiece chamber and a medication delivery needle communicating with the mouthpiece chamber. The needle extends toward the medication container chamber and has an opening for supplying exterior air and medication from an interior cavity of the medication container, accommodated within the medication container chamber, through the needle and to mouthpiece chamber. In the first position, the mouthpiece engages with the inhaler body with such that the needle is spaced from the medication container, and, in the second position, the needle axially traverses the medication container so that the opening in the needle communicates with the air passage and the interior cavity of the medication container to deliver the medication to the patient. The medication inhaler also includes an air bypass which bypasses the needle and supplies supplemental exterior air to the mouthpiece chamber to increase airflow through the medication inhaler.

International Classification:
A61M 15/00
A61M 16/00
B65D 83/06
B05D 7/14
US Classification:
12820321, 12820315
Abstract:
An improved inhalation device is provided for facilitating inhalation by a patient of powder medicaments contained in a receptacle. The inhalation device includes a staple assembly comprising a plunger and staple that are securely and robustly coupled to one another. Embodiments of the inhalation device have a cap that prevents or reduces the amount of dust and grime entering into the device. The cap is additionally configured to prevent or reduce inadvertent and unintentional operation of the device. The body portion and first casing portion of certain embodiments of the inhalation device are sealably coupled, restricting or reducing undesirable flow pathways that have an adverse effect on the operation of the device.

Filed:
Mar 9, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/716204
Inventors:
Charles F. Ganem - Cape Neddick ME, US
Jake Ganem - Cape Neddick ME, US
Scott Ganem - Portsmouth NH, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/34
A62B 7/00
A61M 15/00
US Classification:
12820312, 12820024, 606185
Abstract:
A medication inhaler having an inhaler body with a medication container chamber for receiving a medication container and at least one air passage connecting the medication container chamber with external air and a mouthpiece axially engageable with the inhaler body and having a mouthpiece chamber for communication with a patient's respiratory system and a hollow medication delivery needle communicating with the mouthpiece chamber. The medication delivery needle extends toward the medication container chamber and has at least one opening for passing exterior air and medication from an interior space of a medication container in the medication container chamber through the needle and to mouthpiece chamber. The mouthpiece engages with the inhaler body in a first position wherein the needle extends into the medication container chamber short of the medication container in the medication container chamber and in a second position wherein the needle axially traverses the medication container so that the at least one opening in the needle communicates with the at least one air passage and the interior space of the medication container in the medication container chamber.

Medical Valve With Distal Seal Actuator

View page
US Patent:
20100249724, Sep 30, 2010
Filed:
Mar 30, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/750101
Inventors:
Jake P. Ganem - Cape Neddick ME, US
Assignee:
NP MEDICAL INC. - Clinton MA
International Classification:
A61M 5/00
US Classification:
604249
Abstract:
A medical valve transitions between an open mode that permits fluid flow, and a closed mode that prevents fluid flow. To that end, the valve has a housing with an inlet and an outlet, a post member moveably mounted within the housing and a distal seal member. The post member moves distally within the housing to fluidly connect the inlet and outlet upon insertion of a medical implement into the inlet. The post member also moves proximally within the housing to fluidly disconnect the inlet and outlet upon withdrawal of the medical implement. The distal seal member has a tapered wall region that surrounds a normally closed aperture. The distal movement of the post member opens the aperture and inverts the tapered wall region.

Medical Valve With Multiple Variable Volume Regions

US Patent:
20100249725, Sep 30, 2010
Filed:
Mar 30, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/750120
Inventors:
Jake P. Ganem - Cape Neddick ME, US
Assignee:
NP MEDICAL INC. - Clinton MA
International Classification:
A61M 5/00
US Classification:
604249
Abstract:
A medical valve transitions between an open mode that permits fluid flow, and a closed mode that prevents fluid flow. The valve has a housing, a valve member with a distal seal having a normally closed aperture, a first variable volume region and a second variable volume region longitudinally spaced from the first. Insertion of a medical implement into the inlet opens the aperture and fluidly connects the valve inlet and outlet via a fluid path. Withdrawal of the implement closes the aperture and fluidly disconnects the inlet and outlet. The first variable volume region contracts and the second variable volume expands upon withdrawal of the implement. Both variable volumes may be part of the fluid path. The fluid path may have a closed volume before insertion of the implement and an open volume when in an open mode. The closed volume may be substantially equal to the open mode.
