Method And Apparatus For Providing Information To A Plurality Of Communication Units In A Wireless Communication System

View page
US Patent:
6710702, Mar 23, 2004
Filed:
Nov 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/444629
Inventors:
Rod Averbuch - Buffalo Grove IL
Israel A. Cimet - Chandler AZ
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H04Q 130
US Classification:
340 71, 340 72, 455426, 370337, 370347
Abstract:
A wireless communication system ( ) employs a method and apparatus for providing information to multiple communication units ( ). The communication system includes a communication infrastructure ( ), a data network ( ) and an information source ( ). The multiple communication units each subscribe to an information service provided by the information source. The communication infrastructure creates a subscription group that includes the multiple communication units. The infrastructure receives subscriber information including at least one information unit from the information source and sets up a point-to-multipoint group call with the subscription group. The infrastructure then transmits the subscriber information to the multiple communication units. Any information unit not confirmed by the multiple communication units is re-transmit by the infrastructure. If any information unit remains unconfirmed after the re-transmission, the infrastructure sets up a point-to-point communication session with individual communication units and re-transmits the remaining unconfirmed information unit.

Communications System Load Control Methods And Apparatus

US Patent:
7054641, May 30, 2006
Filed:
Jun 26, 2000
Appl. No.:
10/070845
Inventors:
Derek Alan Oxley - Chandler AZ, US
Israel Arieh Cimet - Chandler AZ, US
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
H04Q 7/36
US Classification:
455453, 455450, 455509, 455 131, 455511, 455512, 4554221, 455 111, 370329, 370330, 370315, 370316, 370324, 370326
Abstract:
A communication system () includes an aircraft () that acts as a repeater between ground equipment () and communication units () on the ground. The ground equipment () includes multiple base transceiver stations () that provide traffic channels, control channels, and access channels. The channels are all in a single beam () projected from aircraft (). Relative loading on access channels is influenced by access class lists (, FIG. ) assigned to control channels. Access classes can be transferred from one list to another, or they can be removed from a list. Relative loading of traffic channels on the base transceiver stations is influenced by assigning different time offsets to base transceiver station so that calls can be transferred from one base transceiver station to another.

Method And System For Multicast Using A Satellite Network

View page
US Patent:
63078619, Oct 23, 2001
Filed:
Mar 18, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/271701
Inventors:
Gerald James Hogg - Fountain Hills AZ
Mark Hajime Kaya - Scottsdale AZ
Lawrence Mitchell Firestone - San Diego CA
Shawn Wesley Hogberg - Chandler AZ
Thomas Peter Emmons - Mesa AZ
Israel Arieh Cimet - Chandler AZ
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H04J 326
US Classification:
370432
Abstract:
A multicast message is transmitted from an originating subscriber unit (110, FIG. 1) through a network of satellite communications nodes (120, 130, and 140) to a plurality of receiving subscriber units (150, 160, and 170). Each message is distributed through the network of satellite communications nodes (120, 130, and 140) and replicated at the node nearest to the receiving subscriber unit. Receiving subscriber units (150, 160, and 170) are mapped into geographic cells which allows a single multicast transmission to be transmitted from the satellite communications node to those subscriber units within the same geographic cell. Multicast groups and membership rules are established by the originating subscriber unit (110) through a service provider (180). A multicast session manager (185) manages the multicast session.
