Method For Vertical Acting Egress And Fire/Smoke Protection

View page
US Patent:
20120216462, Aug 30, 2012
Filed:
Feb 24, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/034096
Inventors:
Ian Klish - Nanticoke PA, US
Brian Reklaitis - Pittston PA, US
Assignee:
CIW Enterprises - Mountaintop PA
International Classification:
E06B 3/38
F16H 57/00
US Classification:
49506, 744115
Abstract:
The present invention presents a novel alternative to side-hinged swinging doors that offers access to a broad egress opening width needed to meet higher occupancy egress requirements while simultaneously qualifying as a lire/smoke harrier. In a preferred embodiment, a single overhead coiling fire door shaft assembly is counter-balanced to allow a fire door curtain to automatically close at a governed controlled descent upon reaching an established critical low battery condition. An operator is provided that will run the door under both normal condition and during a power failure or fire/smoke condition at an established average door speed, and also provide established levels of low battery warning signals/actions while also providing the ability to open as required for emergency egress until the temperature at the opening is not conducive for human life.

Multi-Panel Stacking Overhead Door

View page
US Patent:
20180106086, Apr 19, 2018
Filed:
Oct 14, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/294408
Inventors:
- Mountaintop PA, US
Joseph Balay - Sugarloaf PA, US
Ian Klish - Nanticoke PA, US
Assignee:
CIW Enterprises, Inc. - Mountaintop PA
International Classification:
E05D 15/24
E06B 3/44
E05F 15/60
Abstract:
A multi-panel overhead stacking door which allows for the addition of multiple panels across an opening width. A vertical extrusion acts a guide for the panel above and/or below it. The vertical extrusion serves as a moving guide which thereby allows for the relatively easy addition of multiple panels. At each end of the door is a series of formed parts that are attached to the ends of the end panels and movably maintained with door guides. The assembled door is driven by, for example, a driven shaft, positioned at the top of or above the door opening. The shaft comprises drums to windingly and unwindingly receive a lifting member. The lifting member runs from the drum to the bottom panel assembly behind each vertical extrusion.

Fabric Fire Rated Door

US Patent:
20170234061, Aug 17, 2017
Filed:
Feb 10, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/429370
Inventors:
- Mountain Top PA, US
Brian Feist - Mountain Top PA, US
David Dawdy - Mountain Top PA, US
Ian Klish - Nanticoke PA, US
Assignee:
CIW Enterprises, Inc. - Mountain Top PA
International Classification:
E06B 9/17
E06B 5/16
E06B 9/80
E06B 9/62
E06B 9/72
E06B 9/58
Abstract:
A fabric fire rated door is described. The door utilizes a fire resistant fabric curtain with an end lock attachment. A tubular steel shaft is driven by an internal tube motor. The shaft is supported to minimize deflection. Single door shafts can also be joined together with a coupler shaft to create infinitely wide doors. The coupler shaft is spring loaded to act as a take up reel for a coupling curtain which will overlap each adjacent single door shaft. All curtains are attached to the same bottom bar. A hood covers the shaft, curtain, and the supports that run across the width of the door. The curtain travels over these horizontal supports as it drops down through the hood opening. The horizontal supports keep the curtain in position for proper seal during a fire/smoke event.

Overhead Coiling Closure Hood Guard

US Patent:
20150240557, Aug 27, 2015
Filed:
Feb 22, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/187235
Inventors:
- Mountaintop PA, US
Joseph D. Kondash - Wilkes-Barre PA, US
Joseph Balay - Sugarloaf PA, US
Ian Klish - Nanticoke PA, US
Assignee:
CIW ENTERPRISES, INC. - Mountaintop PA
International Classification:
E06B 9/17
E06B 7/28
F16M 13/02
Abstract:
The disclosed invention prevents damage to a hood and its contents. In a preferred embodiment, a first and second support member are mounted on either side of an access opening. A cross member is slidably retained in a protective, starting position within the support members. The cross member is preferably positioned above the access opening in front of a coiling door hood such that a striking force directed at the hood first encounters the cross member. When struck, the cross member slidably retracts against a force assembly to dissipate the striking force and upon withdrawal of the striking force the cross member returns without human intervention to the protective, starting position.

Overhead Door With Stacking Panels

View page
US Patent:
20140290878, Oct 2, 2014
Filed:
Apr 2, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/855266
Inventors:
- Mountaintop PA, US
Joseph D. Kondash - Wilkes-Barre PA, US
Ian Klish - Nanticoke PA, US
Thomas Balay - Drums PA, US
Assignee:
CIW Enterprises, Inc. - Mountaintop PA
International Classification:
E06B 3/48
E05F 15/00
US Classification:
160188, 160205, 160405
Abstract:
An overhead door system featuring independent, unconnected panels is described. Each panel end is operatively carried within a pair of parallel tracks. The weight of the door decreases as the door is lifted and each panel completely disengages from its adjacent panel as it reaches the stacked position. This allows for a linear spring torque to door weight relationship requiring a very small motor compared to existing designs to provide the lifting torque necessary to operate the door.
