Automatic Steering Mechanism

View page
US Patent:
41611438, Jul 17, 1979
Filed:
Mar 21, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/779684
Inventors:
Mark E. Fasse - Omaha NE
Herbert C. Glesmann - Omaha NE
International Classification:
B62D 126
US Classification:
1042441
Abstract:
An automatic steering mechanism is provided for causing a large farm tractor or other prime mover to selectively follow a predetermined path such as a furrow previously formed in a field. It is contemplated that the prime mover is provided with a steering gear and a fluid power circuit for operating that steering gear. The automatic steering mechanism includes path sensing means such as a furrow follower mounted for deployment in a lowered position in the field furrow. A first linking assembly connects this furrow follower to a fluid power guidance valve functionally disposed in the fluid power circuit. Here, this first linking assembly interconnects the furrow follower and a valve spool. A second linking assembly interconnects the prime mover steering gear and a floating valve body. As these linking assemblies move the valve spool and valve body relative to one another, fluid flow is caused in the fluid power circuit to cause steering action.

Automatic Tilt Adjusting Bracket For A Concrete Finishing Float

View page
US Patent:
47226374, Feb 2, 1988
Filed:
Apr 16, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/040207
Inventors:
Herbert C. Glesmann - Omaha NE
Assignee:
Marshalltown Trowell Company - Marshalltown IA
International Classification:
E01C 1944
US Classification:
404118
Abstract:
An automatic tilt adjusting bracket for connection between a pole handle and a concrete float blade. The bracket includes a base member, a cover member and mechanical linkage interconnecting the base and cover members. As the pole handle is pushed and pulled, a force is applied to the cover member pivoting the base member relative thereto for automatically lifting the leading edge of the float blade.

Latchably Pivotably-Coupled Heat-Exchangers For Motor-Home And Related Vehicles

View page
US Patent:
54921678, Feb 20, 1996
Filed:
May 2, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/236137
Inventors:
Herbert C. Glesmann - Omaha NE
International Classification:
F28D 100
B60K 1104
F01P 318
F02B 2904
US Classification:
165 41
Abstract:
For the environment of motor-home and related roadway vehicles respectively extending along a horizontal and directionally longitudinal central-axis and that terminates as a powertrain-zone including a turbo-charged internal combustion engine vehicular powering means provided with liquid-air radiator that is coupled with an air-air radiator for cooling an airpath therealong including an intake-pipe for conveying environmental air and thence through an incoming-pipe into an engine turbo-charger for conversion into high-pressure-heated-air (HPHA). The HPHA is then conveyed along an outgoing-pipe through an airpath first-interface into the air-air radiator that converts HPHA to high-pressure-cooled-air (HPCA) emerging through an airpath second-interface via an inlead-pipe communicating within said engine, the improvements of: the parallel and coupled liquid-air and air-air radiators are together pivotably associated with framework for the engine and together pivotably movable away from the engine, the outgoing-pipe and the inlead-pipe; and the parallel, coupled, and pivotal liquid-air and air-air radiators at the airpath first-interface and second-interface are respectively provided with first-removable-coupler means and with second-removable-coupler means along the airpath to accommodate pivotal movements of the coupled liquid-air and air-air radiators.

Odometer Disabling System And Clutch Therefor

View page
US Patent:
48877042, Dec 19, 1989
Filed:
Mar 17, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/324609
Inventors:
Herbert C. Glesmann - Omaha NE
International Classification:
F16D 2710
G01C 2200
US Classification:
192 90
Abstract:
For use with an overland motor vehicle including therewithin a traversal-recording odometer that is actuatably connectable to the vehicular transmission, there is disclosed an odometer disabling system for disabling the odometer during time periods when the motor vehicle is being towed and during which it is inappropriate to record overland traversal of the towed vehicle. There is a novel electrically-disengageable spring-actuated clutch intervening between the vehicular odometer and transmission and co-acting with and along the flexible-shaft connection between the odometer and transmission. The clutch has the capability of maintaining the traversal-recording integrity of the odometer only so long as electrical current is not being fed into the electrically powerable coil of the clutch. Included within the clutch housing are: a rear-spindle having a fore-length in keyed relationship with a rearward portion of a magnetically-permeable tubular mover; a front-spindle freely rotatably extending into a forward portion of the tubular mover; a friction disc which at opposite sides thereof faces the tubular mover and a shouldered pressure cup; an appropriately configured spring whose pressure tends to tightly sandwich the friction disc between the tubular mover and pressure cup and whereby torque applied to the front-spindle causes rotation of the rear-spindle; and an electrically powerable coil which, when energized, overcomes the spring pressure at the friction disc and whereby torque applied to the front-spindle cannot cause rear-spindle rotation.

Auxiliary Lubrication Pump Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
46426043, Feb 10, 1987
Filed:
Jan 22, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/693659
Inventors:
Herbert C. Glesmann - Omaha NE
Ronald G. Thomas - Nashville TN
Assignee:
Remco - Omaha NE
International Classification:
B60Q 100
US Classification:
340 60
Abstract:
An auxiliary lubrication pump apparatus for use with towed vehicles having an automatic transmission. The apparatus includes a lubrication pump, a selector valve, a pressure sensing unit, a pump relay and a control unit and a display unit. The control unit includes a timer for sounding an alarm to alert the driver to activate the apparatus when the engine switch of the towing vehicle has been initiated. If pressure in the lubrication cycle drops below an acceptable level, or if electrical power to the apparatus fails, an audible alarm and visual alarm will be provided to the operator of the towing vehicle.

Skeletal Chassis For Motor-Home Roadway Vehicles

View page
US Patent:
53142055, May 24, 1994
Filed:
Jul 15, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/914476
Inventors:
Herbert C. Glesmann - Omaha NE
International Classification:
B62D 2104
B62D 2118
US Classification:
280783
Abstract:
For the skeletal chassis of very-lengthily longitudinally extending motor-home roadway vehicles, the chassis' major and pre-eminent weight-bearing capability has traditionally been furnished by two or more lengthily longitudinally extending, parallel structural members. Departing from such prior art, the very-lengthily longitudinally extending skeletal chassis herein utilizes a single, longitudinally elongate central-axis tubular member as the major and pre-eminent weight-bearing structural member. Such reliance upon a single only central-axial structural member has numerous advantages for motor-home vehicles including, inter alia, providing a torsionally rigid underlying chassis therefor, capability for accommodating longitudinally consecutive and sidewardly-open storage compartments therealong, and for providing therealong a conduit for power and utility lines.

US Patent:
44062320, Sep 27, 1983
Filed:
Mar 23, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/246203
Inventors:
Mark E. Fasse - Lexington NE
Herbert C. Glesmann - Omaha NE
Assignee:
Pathfinder Systems, Inc. - Lexington NE
International Classification:
B61K 502
B61F 900
B62D 506
F61D 702
US Classification:
1042441
Abstract:
A clutch mechanism for use in an automatic steering system is disclosed. The clutch mechanism allows an operator to manually override the automatic steering mechanism by use of the conventional steering gear. It also prevents damage to the automatic steering mechanism, which might be produced by large displacements in a steering gear feedback mechanism. Both angular and linear displacement dissipation devices are described.
