Filed:
Dec 28, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/474056
Inventors:
Hakan O. Djuphammar - San Diego CA, US
Mohamad I. Nasser - San Diego CA, US
Henrik Basilier - Kensington CA, US
Assignee:
Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson
International Classification:
H04L012/66
US Classification:
370352, 370324
Abstract:
The present invention provides systems and methods for coordinating calls within hybrid cells that support both an all services carrier and a best-efforts carrier, wherein the all services carrier supports real-time and non-real-time services and the best efforts carrier supports only non-real-time services. In one embodiment of the invention, the all services carrier is a 1×RTT carrier and the best-efforts carrier is an HDR carrier. Calls may be placed on either carrier and transferred between the carriers as circumstances dictate. In addition, the present invention provides systems and methods to dynamically determine the most appropriate carrier for a given call.

Load Balancing In A Mobile Telecommunications Network

View page
US Patent:
7043253, May 9, 2006
Filed:
May 30, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/157141
Inventors:
Lila Madour - Kirkland, CA
Bobby That Dao Ton - Lachine, CA
Mahmood Hossain - Pointe Claire, CA
Henrik Basilier - San Diego CA, US
Sanjeevan Sivalingham - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ) - Stockholm
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
US Classification:
455453, 4554521, 455454
Abstract:
A system, method and node for supporting PDSN load balancing in a CDMA2000 network. A mobile node (MN) sends an origination message to a BSC/PCF that sends a registration request indicating that it supports load balancing according to the invention to the manager part of a PDSN that selects an agent to take care of the connection and redirects the request to it. The agent then validates the request and sends a reply to the BSC/PCF indicating that the initial request has been redirected. The reply also comprises the IP address of the agent. The BSC/PCF then sets up an A10 connection with the agent, and the MN and the agent negotiate a PPP session. There is further a method of setting up a connection between two entities, via a third entity.

Systems And Methods For Multicast Communications

View page
US Patent:
7061880, Jun 13, 2006
Filed:
Oct 11, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/975760
Inventors:
Henrik Basilier - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)
International Classification:
H04H 1/00
US Classification:
370312, 370329, 370341, 370349, 370390
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided to establish multicast capabilities for communication systems including wireless communication and internet protocol (IP). An exemplary communication system may include one or more content servers (CSs), IP network, packet data serving nodes (PDSNs), IP radio-to-packet network (IP (RP)), base stations (BSs), and mobile stations (MSs) all communicatively coupled together. The content servers may provide a communication multicast on the same IP multicast address. The PDSN to MS communications may use, for example, protocols IGMP (IPv4) and/or MLD (IPv6) for control signaling of the IP multicasting. These protocols may be augmented by MCFTP. The signaling may include identifiers including the IP multicast address, a flow code that may be generated by the PDSN, a unique mapping reference identifier, and various radio parameters. Various signal flow approaches are presented for establishing and maintaining multicast communication between a content server and a mobile station.

System And Method For Packet Data Servicing Node (Pdsn)Initial Assignment And Reselection

View page
US Patent:
7075930, Jul 11, 2006
Filed:
Apr 11, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/546823
Inventors:
Ning Nicholas Chen - San Diego CA, US
Henrik Basilier - Kensington CA, US
Vibhor Julka - San Diego CA, US
Roger Gustavsson - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370392, 370400
Abstract:
An method for PDSN (Packet Data Serving Node) initial assignment and re-selection in a wireless communication system is provided. The method is implemented in PCF (Packet Control Function) within a third-generation (3G) CDMA Radio Access Network (RAN). The methodology reduces the number of point-to-point (PPP) re-establishments, when a Mobile Station (MS) roams to a different packet zone/PCF. The method generates a table of PDSN identification numbers cross-referenced to the PDSN Internet protocol (IP) addresses, residing with each PCF. A PDSN Id number is selected from the table using the MS IMSI (International Mobile Station Identifier) as a key to perform the selection. The present invention methodology addresses the issue of forward and backward compatibility, scalability, reliability, and load sharing in the PDSN selection.

Cdma Internet Protocol Mobile Telecommunications Network Architecture And Methodology

US Patent:
7116646, Oct 3, 2006
Filed:
Mar 20, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/528553
Inventors:
Ulf Gustafson - Palo Alto CA, US
Henrik Basilier - Menlo Park CA, US
Assignee:
Telefonakitebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)
International Classification:
H04Q 7/00
H04L 12/66
H04B 7/216
US Classification:
370313, 370349, 370352
Abstract:
A system and methodology for implementing an all-Internet Protocol for voice and data communications on a code division multiple access (CDMA) network. An access control server is employed to handle packetized communications within the CDMA network. The methodology is preferably also employed when migrating from a legacy, circuited-switched system to the improved packet-switched, all-IP CDMA system of the present invention.

Applications Based Radio Resource Management In A Wireless Communication Network

View page
US Patent:
7289480, Oct 30, 2007
Filed:
Jun 24, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/178107
Inventors:
Anders Lundstrom - La Jolla CA, US
Henrik Basilier - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)
International Classification:
H04Q 7/24
US Classification:
370338, 370328, 370401, 370235
Abstract:
A wireless communication network manages communication resources based on the types of packet data being carried by the network for each mobile station. Packet data for each use is matched to packet matching filters in defined flow type profiles. Each flow type profile corresponds to an expected application behavior and includes one or more resource control parameters having values set with regard to that expected behavior. An application activity profile is generated for each mobile station based on deriving resource control parameters using parameter values corresponding to the active flows for each mobile station. The network determines each mobile station's active flows based on matching that mobile station's packet data types to one or more of the defined flow type profiles. Thus, the network manages communication resources individually and/or jointly for its users based on the type of packet data traffic passing through the network for each of those users.
