Cryogenic Process Utilizing High Pressure Absorber Column

View page
US Patent:
6712880, Mar 30, 2004
Filed:
Oct 22, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/003388
Inventors:
Jorge H. Foglietta - Missouri City TX
Hazem Haddad - Houston TX
Earle Ross Mowrey - Houston TX
Sanjiv N. Patel - Sugarland TX
Ajit Sangave - Houston TX
Assignee:
ABB Lummus Global, Inc. - Houston TX
International Classification:
B01D 5314
US Classification:
95184, 95204, 95227, 95228, 95237, 62618, 62625
Abstract:
A cryogenic process and apparatus for separating multi-component gaseous hydrocarbon streams to recover both gaseous and liquid compounds. More particularly, the cryogenic processes and apparatus of this invention utilize a high pressure absorber to improve the energy efficiency of processing natural gas for pipeline gas sales and recovering natural gas liquids (NGL) gas from gaseous hydrocarbon streams.

Optimized Heating Value In Natural Gas Liquids Recovery Scheme

View page
US Patent:
6964181, Nov 15, 2005
Filed:
Aug 28, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/651178
Inventors:
Paul Barton Milios - Katy TX, US
Hazem Haddad - Houston TX, US
David C. Vogel - Houston TX, US
Sanjiv N. Patel - Sugar Land TX, US
Jorge H. Foglietta - Missouri City TX, US
Assignee:
ABB Lummus Global Inc. - Houston TX
International Classification:
F25J003/00
F25J001/00
US Classification:
62620, 62613
Abstract:
A process and apparatus for controlling or reducing the heating value or BTU content of NGL recovered from LNG streams. LNG pipelines have a maximum allowable heating value that LNG must be within prior to entering the pipeline. If the LNG heating value is too high, the components contributing to the high heating value must be removed prior to being introduced in the pipeline. The process controls the heating value of the residue LNG gas stream by splitting a feed stream and warming at least a portion of the feed stream. Substantial differences in enthalpy content and temperature between the two portions of the feed stream exist prior to being sent to a fractionation tower.

Mixed Refrigerants In Ethylene Recovery

View page
US Patent:
56260342, May 6, 1997
Filed:
Nov 17, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/560469
Inventors:
David Manley - Rolla MO
Hazem Haddad - Rolla MO
International Classification:
F25J 100
US Classification:
62623
Abstract:
The present invention is a process of high efficiency rectification zone separation of cracked or other ethylene-containing gas chilled primarily by two closed mixed refrigerant loops and at least part of the dephlegmated overhead gas. The composition of the mixed refrigerants is optimally chosen to obtain an extremely close approach between the process condensation temperatures in the high efficiency rectification zone and the temperature of the chilling streams. An approach of about 3. degree. F. to 8. degree. F. can be achieved for the full condensation curve in the high efficiency rectification zone operating with either ethane or naphtha derived cracked gas. Highly reliable and stable operation is obtained by closed refrigeration loops in the present invention, in addition to reducing high efficiency rectification zone design cost.

Low Cost Thermal Coupling In Ethylene Recovery

View page
US Patent:
56750544, Oct 7, 1997
Filed:
Jul 17, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/503486
Inventors:
David Manley - Rolla MO
Hazem Haddad - Rolla MO
International Classification:
C07C 700
C10G 4922
B01D 300
US Classification:
585809
Abstract:
The invention is a process for reducing capital and energy costs in ethylene recovery. Moderate pressure processing and thermally coupled fractionation steps are achieved through the use of integrator columns. Ethylene separation from cracked gas originating from ethane through gas oil feeds can now be done with thermodynamically efficient fractionation at capital cost competitive with low efficiency designs. Acetylene hydrogenation may be done before demethanization where desired, and dephlegmation is preferred to accomplish high-efficiency rectification of hydrogen and methane from ethylene. Open loop heat pumps can optionally be incorporated into the ethane/ethylene splitter fractionation step, whose desirability is controlled by optimization of capital and energy costs.
