Methods Of Performing Mobile Ip Registration In A Wireless Communication System

View page
US Patent:
20030158938, Aug 21, 2003
Filed:
Feb 15, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/077463
Inventors:
Ravi Adatrao - Palatine IL, US
Andrew Harris - Columbia MD, US
Hania Yassin - West Chicago IL, US
James Eastwood - Bellingham WA, US
International Classification:
G06F015/16
G06F015/173
US Classification:
709/225000, 709/230000
Abstract:
A mobile IP registration solution for mobile nodes (-) of a wireless communication system () eliminates the need for sending () solicitation messages or receiving () advertisement messages from foreign agents (). A mobile node receives an IP address of a foreign agent from a control message upon roaming into a new site or zone and attempting () to acquire a channel. Substantially immediately upon acquiring () a channel, the mobile node determines () whether to send a proxy MIP advertisement. If not, the mobile node retrieves () the foreign agent IP address and forwards () the foreign agent IP address to a processing element (e.g., layer 3 processing element). If a proxy MIP advertisement will be sent, the mobile node retrieves () the foreign agent IP address and a static capabilities list associated with the foreign agent, constructs () a proxy MIP advertisement and forwards () the proxy MIP advertisement to a processing element (e.g., layer 3 processing element). Upon receiving the foreign agent IP address or proxy MIP advertisement, the processing element constructs () a mobile IP registration request using the foreign agent IP address. The registration request is sent () to a home agent (), along with a care of address, such that the home agent may tunnel packets targeted to the mobile nodes via the care of address while they are at the visited site or network.

US Patent:
20090154460, Jun 18, 2009
Filed:
Dec 17, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/958014
Inventors:
Ruth A. Varela - Rolling Meadows IL, US
Joseph E. Baum - Cary IL, US
Ronald V. Gillis - Elburn IL, US
Mary M. Valdivia - Lake Zurich IL, US
Hania A. Yassin - West Chicago IL, US
Xiaoming Zhao - Naperville IL, US
Assignee:
MOTOROLA, INC. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H04L 12/56
US Classification:
370392
Abstract:
A method is disclosed that includes sending () a first full header from a source compressor () to a destination decompressor () wherein the source compressor and the destination decompressor are a part of a symmetrical configuration. An IP packet including the full header is compressed into a first compressed header () based on the context established in the first full header. The first compressed header is sent () from the source compressor to the destination decompressor. The compressor receives () a second full header from the destination compressor wherein the second full header indicates that the destination decompressor did not receive the first full header. The second full header can include a modified field or has an incremented generation identification. The source compressor sends () another full header to the destination decompressor.
