Method For Producing Developed Electrostatic Images Using Reduced Density Color Toners

View page
US Patent:
20030027062, Feb 6, 2003
Filed:
Sep 30, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/261190
Inventors:
Romit Bhattacharya - Morris Plains NJ, US
Giovanni Perrotta - Wayne NJ, US
Charles Edwards - Mountain View CA, US
Assignee:
Specialty Toner Corporation
International Classification:
G03G013/01
US Classification:
430/018000, 430/045000, 430/117000
Abstract:
A method of producing a high resolution image on a substrate using an electrostatic printer by providing an electrostatic printer having a plurality of toner fountains and a set of color toners, the set having at least one reduced density toner having a color density less than that of a standard toner of the same color; and applying the reduced density toner in at least two passes of a substrate through the electrostatic printer to develop a desired image for that color. With the method of the invention, at least two toners of the same color, but different color density, may be provided to one toner fountain, thereby allowing the toner fountain to function in the manner of a plurality of toner fountains without requiring a flushing step.

US Patent:
20030036009, Feb 20, 2003
Filed:
Sep 25, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/256217
Inventors:
Romit Bhattacharya - Morris Plains NJ, US
Giovanni Perrotta - Wayne NJ, US
Daryl Schelin - Las Vegas NV, US
Assignee:
Specialty Toner Corporation
International Classification:
G03G013/01
US Classification:
430/045000, 430/018000, 430/117000
Abstract:
The present invention is to a method of producing a high resolution image on an electrostatic printer by (a) providing an electrostatic printer having at least five toner fountains; (b) providing a set of at least five liquid toners each having a desired color, the set comprising at least one reduced density toner and at least one dark toner, where the reduced density toner is either white or has the same color, but a lower color density, as at least one other toner in the set, and the dark toner is either black or has the same color but a higher color density as at least one other toner in the set; (c) forming an electrostatic image on a substrate that corresponds to that portion of a final image that is formed from one of the toner colors; (d) developing the electrostatic image with the appropriate color toner; and (e) forming the final image by repeating (b) and (c) for each color toner.

US Patent:
57442690, Apr 28, 1998
Filed:
Nov 25, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/774324
Inventors:
Romit Bhattacharya - Morris Plains NJ
Giovanni Perrotta - Wayne NJ
Achyut Bhalchandra Deshpande - South Orange NJ
Paul Rocco Bilancio - Oak Ridge NJ
Assignee:
Specialty Toner Corporation - Fairfield NJ
International Classification:
G03G 1320
G03G 300
US Classification:
430 18
Abstract:
A method of protecting an electrostatic image on a substrate, wherein, an electrostatic image is formed on the substrate, and protected by applying an amphipathic liquid toner on the electrostatic image by electrostatic means, and fixing the amphipathic liquid toner to form a protective layer. The amphipathic liquid toner includes a carrier fluid, an amphipathic, non-gel copolymer, and a charge control agent to provide an electrostatic charge. The carrier fluid is typically an electrically resistive hydrocarbon solvent, having an electrical resistivity of at least about 10. sup. 9 ohm. cndot. cm, a dielectric constant of less than about 3, and a boiling point from about 68. degree. C. to about 250. degree. C. The amphipathic, non-gel copolymer, which is insoluble as a whole in the carrier fluid, has at least one polymer segment that is soluble in the carrier fluid and at least one polymer segment that is insoluble in the carrier fluid.
