Photonic Band-Gap Light-Emitting Fibers

View page
US Patent:
20020102081, Aug 1, 2002
Filed:
Jan 31, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/774967
Inventors:
George Voevodkin - Torrance CA, US
International Classification:
G02B006/16
US Classification:
385/123000
Abstract:
A photonic band-gap (PBG) light-emitting fiber, including two-dimensional PBG structures in an environmentally robust glass matrix. The fiber limits photon emission to directions collinear with the fiber core to increase fluorescence and scintillation collection efficiency. The PBG structures are comprised of a plurality of high refractive index inclusions to increase the light-trapping efficiency of the fiber.

Method And Apparatus For Treating Skin Using Patterns Of Optical Energy

View page
US Patent:
20030216719, Nov 20, 2003
Filed:
Feb 14, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/367582
Inventors:
Len Debenedictis - Palo Alto CA, US
George Voevodkin - Tarrytown NY, US
Michael Black - Foster City CA, US
International Classification:
A61B018/18
US Classification:
606/010000
Abstract:
A dermatological apparatus includes multiple light source and optical pathway connections. Each light source is capable of delivering an optical beam through its connected optical pathway to a targeted portion of a human skin. The dermatological apparatus also includes a control system to select and control the light sources to deliver multiple optical beams in a discontinuous pattern and a focusing element to focus the power of the delivered optical beams to multiple discrete treatment zones that are located up to 1.5 mm underneath an outer surface of the targeted portion. The discrete treatment zones have sizes in the range of 10 m to 1000 m.

Method And Apparatus For Fractional Photo Therapy Of Skin

View page
US Patent:
20050049582, Mar 3, 2005
Filed:
Jul 9, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/888356
Inventors:
Leonard DeBenedictis - Palo Alto CA, US
G. Herron - La Honda CA, US
Robert Sink - Mountain View CA, US
David Eimerl - Livermore CA, US
Vladimir Lemberg - Redwood City CA, US
George Voevodkin - Tarrytown NY, US
Michael Black - Foster City CA, US
International Classification:
A61B018/20
US Classification:
606009000, 607089000
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing fractional treatment of tissue (e.g., skin) using lasers is disclosed. The method involves creating one or more microscopic treatment zones of necrotic tissue and thermally-altered tissue and intentionally leaving viable tissue to surround the microscopic treatment zones. The dermatological apparatus includes one or more light sources and a delivery system to generate the microscopic treatment zones in a predetermined pattern. The microscopic treatment zones may be confined to the epidermis, dermis or span the epidermal-dermal junction, and further the stratum corneum above the microscopic treatment zones may be spared.
