Filed:
Apr 7, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/082320
Inventors:
Gary M. Colello - North Andover MA, US
Dennis M. Darcy - Tyungsboro MA, US
George B. Stevens - Cambridge MA, US

International Classification:
G01R 11/57
H02J 7/00
US Classification:
705412, 320128
Abstract:
A method for shifting energy in space and time includes charging an energy store from an energy source at a first location, transporting the energy store to a second location, and discharging the energy store at the second location to deliver energy to an energy consumer. A method for providing energy security to an energy consumer includes charging an energy store from an energy source at a first location, transporting the energy store to a second location, and when a primary energy source at the second location is unavailable, discharging the energy store at the second location to deliver energy to the energy consumer. A vehicle for wirelessly transmitting electric power from a first location to a second location includes a battery, at least one power converter, a controller, and power coupling electrically coupled to the at least one power converter.

Poultry Harvester

View page
US Patent:
53258207, Jul 5, 1994
Filed:
Oct 14, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/961173
Inventors:
Douglas V. Briggs - Northwood NH
George C. Stevens - Northwood NH
Assignee:
American Calan, Inc. - Northwood NH
International Classification:
A01K 2900
US Classification:
119846
Abstract:
A poultry harvester capable of capturing poultry on a generally horizontal plane, such as the floor of a poultry house, and transferring a predetermined number of captured poultry to a compartment of a cage having a plurality of compartments. A capturing mechanism captures the poultry and provides it to a conveying mechanism for conveying the captured poultry. A counting mechanism counts the captured poultry. A depositing mechanism deposits the conveyed poultry into each of the compartments of the cage under the control of a CPU responsive to the counting mechanism. The CPU controls the depositing mechanism to deposit in each of the compartments the predetermined number of poultry as counted by the counting mechanism. A method for harvesting poultry is also disclosed.

US Patent:
59838370, Nov 16, 1999
Filed:
Nov 21, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/754701
Inventors:
Douglas V. Briggs - Northwood NH
George C. Stevens - Northwood NH
Assignee:
American Calan, Inc. - Northwood NH
International Classification:
A01K 2900
US Classification:
119845
Abstract:
A bird counter capable of separating, detecting, and counting birds. A counterrotating rotor mechanism having flexible fingers receives the birds into a space between the rotors substantially one at a time to separate the birds. The counterrotating rotor mechanism expels the birds from the space substantially one at a time. A fiber optic bird detecting system detects the number of expelled birds after the birds have been separated by the counterrotating rotors.

Poultry Transport Compartment With Inwardly Opening Doors

View page
US Patent:
55969500, Jan 28, 1997
Filed:
Aug 4, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/285997
Inventors:
Douglas V. Briggs - Northwood NH
George C. Stevens - Northwood NH
Assignee:
American Calan, Inc. - Northwood NH
International Classification:
A01K 3107
US Classification:
119489
Abstract:
A poultry container comprises a frame assembly defining an interior space, and at least one loading door having one end pivotally mounted on the frame assembly of the poultry container. The frame assembly has an opening accessing the interior space to enable the loading of poultry into the poultry container. The door is mounted on the frame assembly to situate the door in the access opening. The loading door is operable to pivot between an open position in which a free end of the door is positioned in the interior space and a closed position in which the door substantially blocks the access opening of the poultry container. The poultry container further includes a mechanism for biasing the loading door in the closed position. A mechanism restricts the free end of the loading door from swinging outwardly away from the poultry container. Upon actuation of the door by an external force directed to the interior space of the poultry container, the loading door pivots inwardly to the open position to enable the loading of poultry into the container.
