Method Of Providing Friable Polytetrafluoroethylene Products

View page
US Patent:
58915737, Apr 6, 1999
Filed:
Aug 8, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/908576
Inventors:
Nicholas W. Neuberg - Perrinville NJ
George Poszmik - Parlin NJ
Manshi Sui - Somerville NJ
Assignee:
Shamrock Chemicals Corporation - Newark NJ
International Classification:
B32B 516
C08F 600
C08J 328
US Classification:
428402
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for providing a friable polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) product that has particles of a desired size which are flowable and do not tend to agglomerate. To achieve this result, the PTFE starting material is handled at a temperature below 66. degree. F. , and preferably below 55. degree. F. , before irradiating. The PTFE starting material may be mixed with a wetting agent before irradiating to provide a product that has enhanced dispersibility. The source of radiation may include electron beam radiation, nuclear radiation, or radiation from a cobalt-60 (CO. sub. 60) source.

Living Radical Polymerization Of Vinyl Monomers

View page
US Patent:
57081026, Jan 13, 1998
Filed:
Sep 12, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/704644
Inventors:
Michael Fryd - Moorestown NJ
Bradford B. Wayland - Philadelphia PA
George Poszmik - Philadelphia PA
Shakti L. Mukerjee - Upper Darby PA
Assignee:
E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
C08F 444
C08F 406
C08F 410
C08F 450
US Classification:
526172
Abstract:
This invention relates generally to a living free radical polymerization of alkene monomers through use of persistent metal centered radicals to attain control of the propagation and termination steps in radical polymerization. This process is useful for controlling the molecular weight of homopolymers or copolymers and for forming block copolymers.
