Abstract:
A nuclear fusion device comprising a condensed phase fuel element and accelerated ion beams which ionize and compress the fuel element and initiate nuclear fusion reactions. In one of the embodiment beams comprising electrons in addition to ions are employed. A method is provided comprising synchronization, acceleration and focusing of the said beams on the fuel target. Another object of the invention is to provide an apparatus and method for a continuous nuclear fusion process. Another object is a clean fusion process. A further object of the invention is to provide a neutron generator.

Abstract:
Self-gripping devices having a base with a plurality of the gripping element attached are disclosed. The gripping elements are capable of releasably self-gripping fibrous materials without damaging same include a stiffly rigid stem with at least one flexible self-gripping means attached thereto. The self-gripping means can be one or more retaining nibs integral with or attached to the stem and are generally inclined downward so as to offer relatively little resistance upon penetration into a fibrous material and greater resistance to pulling out.

Cladding elements, such as tiles, plaques, wall panels, wall paper, vinyl covered cloth and the like are attached to or mounted on structural elements such as lath, sheet rock, and the like, by a method which includes providing cladding and structural elements with a receiving layer, positioning between the receiving layers a gripping member having a plurality of stiff gripping elements, the receiving layers being adapted to permit the gripping elements to penetrate and lodge therein, and pressing the elements together to cause the gripping elements to penetrate and become lodged in both receiving layers. Composite laminates formed by the method is also included.

A textile multi-filament yarn having individual filaments cohered together at least in part by individual interfilamentary bridges, which bridges are disposed within the multi-filament yarn to join the filaments thereof so as to render the yarn structurally frozen so that at least a part of the individual filaments cannot be pulled apart without breaking at least in part the structure of the multi-filament yarn. The bridges are made of the same material as the filaments. Some of the segments of individual filaments between consecutive interfilamentary bridges can be of different length.

Abstract:
Linear elements such as filaments having grafted nibs are disclosed. The grafted nibs are generally fibrils and/or scales which can be flexible or rigid. The nibs can be randomly grafted onto the linear element or they can be inclined or oriented in one direction so as to offer relatively little resistance to penetration into a material and greater resistance to pulling out. The linear element with grafted nibs can be twisted or spun into a yarn or it can be used as a yarn component. The linear element with grafted nibs or a yarn thereof can be used as a non-slip thread, as laces, and the like or they can be a component of woven and non-woven articles. Also disclosed is a method for making the linear elements having a plurality of nibs physically bonded thereto. A substantially linear element such as a thread, a wire, a monofilament, a yarn, a ribbon or the like is contacted with a static or agitated mass of nibs thereby causing same to become physically bonded to the linear element. If desired, the linear element with nibs bonded thereto can be cut into discrete lengths which can be used as gripping elements in the manufacture of a multi-element self-gripping device for example.

Abstract:
Fasces fibers consisting of fascicles of filaments bonded together at joints are disclosed. The joints may be focal or may be dispersed through the fiber fascicles in a statistical or predetermined pattern. The fascicles may be composed of the same type of fiber or from a mixture of different fibers. In one embodiment the fiber fascicle may contain coarser high tensile strength fiber(s), termed leader fiber(s), which is (are) accompanied and bonded to a group of slender fibers termed the satellite fibers. The latter fibers may provide properties that may be lacking in the mechanically strong leader fiber. These properties for example may include those of texture, softness, resiliency, bulk, insulation, moisture absorption, color and luster, antistatic properties and flame retardancy. The division of variables of fiber characteristics is a valuable feature of the present invention. Another feature of this invention is the ability to control the virtual volume which the composite faces fiber commands.

Abstract:
Cellular linear filaments are disclosed and include a substantially continuous, integral plastic hollow member having internal generally transverse partitions which divide the hollow member into cells. The wall of the hollow member can be continuous or can contain orifices, slits, windows and the like. The cells can be open or closed and uniformly or randomly spaced along the tubular member. The cells are defined by transverse partitions which can be integrally formed with the hollow member or they can be seals in the hollow member. Woven, non-woven and tufted materials including yarns made up in part or in total of the cellular linear element are also disclosed. The cellular linear element can be cut into discrete lengths to form pile-like elements which can be attached upright to a base to form a multi-element device.
