Invertible Trimmer Line Spool For A Vegetation Trimmer Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
7412768, Aug 19, 2008
Filed:
May 11, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/126842
Inventors:
George E. Alliss - Lumberton NC, US
International Classification:
B26B 7/00
A01D 34/416
US Classification:
30276, 30347, 56 127
Abstract:
A vegetation trimmer comprising an elongate main handle to which is connected a motor that rotatably drives a trimmer head located at a distal end of the handle. The trimmer head defines a rotational axis and includes a housing and a spool rotatably received in the housing for carrying at least one coil of flexible trimmer line. The trimmer head further includes structure for enabling trimmer line to be wound through housing and onto the spool in a user-selected clockwise or counterclockwise direction without removing the spool from the housing such that trimmer line is dischargeable from the trimmer head in an appropriate clockwise or counterclockwise direction dictated by the direction of rotation of the vegetation trimmer drive shaft.

Bi-Directional Trimmer Head Spool With Curved Trimmer Line Guide

View page
US Patent:
8025249, Sep 27, 2011
Filed:
Nov 16, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/985673
Inventors:
George E. Alliss - Bladenboro NC, US
Steven W. Hamblin - Daleville VA, US
International Classification:
B26B 7/00
US Classification:
2423881, 30276
Abstract:
In an embodiment, a spool for a trimmer head has a structure for guiding the trimmer line around a region for a driveshaft. In an embodiment, a component (e. g. , a turn knob or a stop) is attached to the spool so that after determining the orientation in which to install the spool, the user is unlikely to install the spool in another orientation, even though the spool is invertible. In an embodiment, the turn knob also includes a structure that allows the turn knob to be used as a tool (e. g. , as a wrench or screw driver) that facilitates disassembling the trimmer head.

String Trimmer Head Having Invertible Components That Enable Selective Clockwise And Counterclockwise Operations

View page
US Patent:
8266805, Sep 18, 2012
Filed:
Jun 24, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/490852
Inventors:
George Everett Alliss - Bladenboro NC, US
International Classification:
B26B 7/00
A01D 34/416
US Classification:
30276, 30347, 15 127
Abstract:
A trimmer head assembly has a housing that defines an interior. A spool is provided. The spool can be inserted into the interior of the housing either in an upright configuration or in a flipped inverted orientation. A spring is provided in the housing that biases the spool into a first position within the housing. A ratcheting mechanism exists between the spool and the housing that enables the spool to rotate only in a first direction when in said first position. The direction of rotation permitted by the ratcheting mechanism depends upon the orientation of the spool within the housing. In this manner, a single trimmer head assembly can be made to operate on a clockwise trimmer or a counterclockwise trimmer merely by inverting the spool.

Line Holding System For Fixed Line Trimmer Head

US Patent:
8307558, Nov 13, 2012
Filed:
Jun 8, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/811172
Inventors:
George E. Alliss - Lumberton NC, US
International Classification:
A01D 34/416
US Classification:
30276, 30347, 56 127
Abstract:
In an embodiment, at least one pair cleats is provided. The two cleats of each pair are symmetrically arranged about a passageway for trimmer line. The two cleats of each pair allow trimmer line to be inserted through an entrance port with relatively little (if any) hindrance. However, the cleats grip the trimmer line preventing the trimmer line from being removed via the entrance port when the trimmer line is pulled from the entrance port (e. g. , during use). In an embodiment, a trimmer head is provided with an exit port on the top of the trimmer head, which is for removing trimmer line by pulling the trimmer line through the exit port. The trimmer head uses a fixed length of trimmer line, which may be loaded with new trimmer line by inserting the trimmer line into an entrance port until one end of the trimmer line reaches the exit port.

Vegetation Trimmer Apparatus

US Patent:
20030033718, Feb 20, 2003
Filed:
Aug 16, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/222375
Inventors:
George Alliss - Lumberton NC, US
International Classification:
A01D034/84
US Classification:
030/276000
Abstract:
A motorized vegetation trimmer apparatus comprising an elongate main handle to which is connected a motor that rotatably drives a trimmer head located at a distal end of the handle. The trimmer head carries one or more radially outwardly projecting cutting members which cut vegetation as the trimmer head rotates. Each cutting member comprises a finite length of flexible strand. The cutting member is releasably gripped by a one-way gripping mechanism including a reciprocating gripping member and a compression spring that biases the gripping member into gripping contact with the strand.
