Toner Cartridge Toner Dam Replacement And Method Therefor

View page
US Patent:
57997128, Sep 1, 1998
Filed:
Feb 28, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/395769
Inventors:
Gar P. Kelly - Boise ID
Bob Aaron - Boise ID
Dennis P. Davidson - Boise ID
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Company - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
G03G 1506
US Classification:
141287
Abstract:
In order to insert a replacement toner dam in an assembled toner cartridge, the opposing sides of the toner cartridge are caused to move towards each other so as to deform the cartridge and cause openings to appear at opposing ends thereof. A pair of web spring carriers are inserted into and through the openings so they exit from one opening. A new toner dam is inserted between web spring carriers at the portion thereof that exits from the opening. The web spring carriers are then withdrawn until the replacement toner dam is in a proper position. The dam is then held in position and the web spring carriers are freely withdrawn. This method thereby enables replacement of the toner dam without injury to seals at either end of the toner cartridge. Various non-adhesive bearing toner dam structures are shown, each of which has a flexible portion that engages a toner bottle flange and thereby enables a toner seal to be achieved without use of adhesive. Additional methods are described which require disassembly of a used toner cartridge and replacement of certain parts thereof.

Balanced Capillary Ink Jet Pen For Ink Jet Printing Systems

View page
US Patent:
47914386, Dec 13, 1988
Filed:
Oct 28, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/115013
Inventors:
Gary E. Hanson - Boise ID
Gar P. Kelly - Boise ID
C. S. Chan - Boise ID
Bruce Cowger - Corvallis OR
James G. Bearss - Boise ID
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Company - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
G01D 1516
G01D 900
US Classification:
346140R
Abstract:
This application is directed to an ink jet pen having an ink supply housing which includes a primary ink reservoir (30) and a secondary ink reservoir (26). A balancing capillary member is positioned within the ink supply housing and includes ink flow path (20, 24) which extends between the primary ink reservoir (30) and the secondary ink reservoir (26). This capillary member is operative to draw ink from the primary ink reservoir (30) and into or toward the secondary ink reservoir (26) by capillary action as temperature and pressure within the primary ink reservoir increases. Conversely, when temperature and pressure in the housing decreases, ink will be drawn back into or toward the primary ink reservoir (30). In addition, the primary ink reservoir (30) is connected by way of a suitable ink feed path to an ink jet printhead (32) for supplying ink to the printhead during an ink jet printing operation.

Refurbished Toner Cartridge

View page
US Patent:
53929632, Feb 28, 1995
Filed:
Jun 1, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/069636
Inventors:
Gar P. Kelly - Boise ID
Brian J. Renstrom - Boise ID
K. Trent Christensen - Boise ID
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Company - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
G03G 1506
G03G 2100
US Classification:
222325
Abstract:
A refurbished toner cartridge includes a cover having elongated side dimensions with integral flanges and a mating bottle also having elongated side flanges, the flanges bonded to create an interior volume for holding a print toner. At one end of the cartridge is a toner fill opening which enables access into the interior volume. The refurbished cartridge further comprises a flexible bladder that is inserted through the fill opening and is positioned within the interior volume of the cartridge. Toner is contained in the bladder and is released upon the bladder being ruptured by user actuation of either an internal knife blade or a pull string attached to the bladder.

Electrophotography Developer Canister With Material-Moving Roller

View page
US Patent:
58549617, Dec 29, 1998
Filed:
Jul 21, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/898023
Inventors:
Mark Wibbels - Boise ID
Gar P. Kelly - Boise ID
Richard L. Swantner - Meridian ID
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Company - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
G03G 1508
US Classification:
399281
Abstract:
Embodiments of a material-moving electrophotography roller are shown and described, each embodiment having an outer surface having ridges. The ridges may extend in right-handed or left-handed orientation, or in other angled (non-radial and non-horizontal) manner. The ridges lie in such a pattern so that the ridges move material radially over the roller or against a restrictive surface, and so that there are no gaps in the contact between the ridges and the material or the restrictive surface during a revolution of the roller. The roller is preferably made of a shaft covered by a sleeve or tube of non-disintegrating material with external ridges. The ridged tube is twisted and secured to the shaft so that the ridges run preferably and substantially at a 45. degree. -75. degree. angle from perpendicular to the roller axis. Alternatively, a monofilament line or other non-disintegrating cord may be wrapped and secured around a cylinder to create the ridges and troughs necessary for material movement and for distribution of the time of engagement of the ridges on material or surfaces.
