Dual Function Pusher And Rotate Switch For Solid State Digital Watches Having Detent Spring

View page
US Patent:
40313417, Jun 21, 1977
Filed:
Jan 14, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/649115
Inventors:
Paul Wuthrich - Watertown CT
Frank P. Mascia - Bristol CT
Assignee:
Timex Corporation - Waterbury CT
International Classification:
G04C 900
G04B 2700
H01H 1352
US Classification:
200 52R
Abstract:
A dual function pusher and rotate switch assembly for actuating, for example, a display light and/or time correction which includes a crown portion on the outside of the watch case and a shaft portion extending through the wall of the case. The shaft portion includes an intermediate section on the inside of the case which cooperates with a spring to provide a two position rotary detent action. In addition to permitting detent holding of the stem in the proper contact position, the spring arrangement also enables biased axial movement of the stem. The internal end of the shaft includes an eccentric tab which contacts a precisely positioned first switch blade when the stem being in a first detent position is pushed-in or contacts a second switch blade if the crown is rotated to a second detent position. If the crown is pushed-in while in the second detent position, both switch blades are engaged causing actuation of two functions such as causing simultaneous illumination and updating of the display.

Pusher And Switch Device For Electronic Watch

View page
US Patent:
40230023, May 10, 1977
Filed:
Jan 14, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/649114
Inventors:
Paul Wuthrich - Watertown CT
Frank P. Mascia - Bristol CT
Assignee:
Timex Corporation - Waterbury CT
International Classification:
H01H 312
G04C 300
US Classification:
200159R
Abstract:
The pusher and switch device is employed in electronic watches for actuating, for example, a display light. The pusher includes a crown portion, a stem portion extending through the wall of the case and having an intermediate section on the inside of the case which cooperates with a single stamped spring to provide axial movement of the stem. In addition to permitting axial movement of the stem, the spring arrangement also provides electrical contact to ground the stem to the case. A sealing element or gasket is held in an annular groove formed in the stem which contacts the internal surface of the case to provide for water resistant construction.
