Roll Die Assemblies For Pilger Mills

View page
US Patent:
20090113975, May 7, 2009
Filed:
Nov 5, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/982628
Inventors:
Fletcher Calvin Eddens - Wilmington NC, US
International Classification:
B21B 21/02
US Classification:
72214, 7237025
Abstract:
The utilization of smaller dies than those originally intended for a given size pilger mill is made possible for the first time by a new means of strengthening the necessarily small diameter shaft and by novel bearing blocks wherein smaller bearings are mounted off center. The smaller die assembly constructed according to this invention is completely and simply interchangeable with the original die sets and can be inserted in the pilger mill as a matter of course without modifications or adjustments to the machine proper.

Method Of Making Fuel Channel

View page
US Patent:
46047859, Aug 12, 1986
Filed:
Dec 21, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/685265
Inventors:
Fletcher C. Eddens - Wilmington NC
Assignee:
General Electric Company - San Jose CA
International Classification:
B21D 3902
US Classification:
29463
Abstract:
A method for making a nuclear fuel channel is disclosed having a high degree of dimensional accuracy which uses the thermal expansion of a mandrel to precisely size the channel. An assembly of the mandrel and a channel preform is pulled through a die to die sink the preform into substantial surface-to-surface contact with the mandrel prior to the heating step.

Heat Treated Tube

View page
US Patent:
45766541, Mar 18, 1986
Filed:
Nov 1, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/438515
Inventors:
Fletcher C. Eddens - Wilmington NC
David W. White - Wilmington NC
John L. Harmon - Wilmington NC
Assignee:
General Electric Company - San Jose CA
International Classification:
C22F 118
US Classification:
148 115F
Abstract:
There is provided a nuclear fuel element having a zirconium alloy cladding tube with improved corrosion resistance. The cladding tube comprises a metallurgical gradient across the width of the tube wall wherein the tube has a more corrosion-resistant metallurgical condition at the outer circumference and a less corrosion-resistant metallurgical condition at the inner circumference. The metallurgical gradient can be generated by heating an outer circumferential portion of the tube to the high alpha or mixed alpha plus beta range while maintaining the inner surface at a lower temperature, followed by cooling of the tube.

Power System For Land Vehicles

View page
US Patent:
43477011, Sep 7, 1982
Filed:
Apr 3, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/136897
Inventors:
Fletcher C. Eddens - Wilmington NC
Robert S. Moore - Wilmington NC
Kenneth R. Munkittrick - Wilmington NC
Assignee:
Tokyo Electric Co., Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
F01K 1502
US Classification:
60413
Abstract:
A method of converting steam pressure from a boiler into a constant pressure hydraulic fluid working media and system for efficiently utilizing the hydraulically stored energy in a land vehicle or the like. A reciprocating steam piston actuates one or more hydraulic pistons in cylinders without going through a crankshaft or other rotating parts. A means of recuperating kinetic energy from a decelerating vehicle and storing it as pressurized working fluid is provided.

Bow Control For Metallic Structures

View page
US Patent:
45486573, Oct 22, 1985
Filed:
Jun 14, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/387829
Inventors:
Fletcher C. Eddens - Wilmington NC
Assignee:
General Electric Company - San Jose CA
International Classification:
C22F 118
US Classification:
148133
Abstract:
A method of controlling the bowing action of fuel channels used in nuclear reactor cores is disclosed. Each channel is heat treated and mounted in its control rod module with an orientation dependent on its prior heat treatment. Upon exposure to radiation, the channels will bow in a desired direction away from the control rod.
